Holy Box-Office, Batman! Dark Knight Makes $66M On Record-Breaking Opening Day
Summary
With anticipation so high theaters across the country were adding midnight and early a.m. shows to meet demand, Christopher Nolan's Batman sequel The Dark Knight took in an estimated $66.4 million on opening day. killermonkey8822 writes: on Jul 19 2008 04:16 PM Batman Begins: a new and great look at batman.... not weird like Tim Burton's look on batman (i like Burton's vision and he's one of my favorite directors, but Nolan took it to a whole new level) and not corny like Schumacher's sad take on Batman.... an excellent film which is both a gripping (but fun) drama and a dark comic book film The Dark Knight: sequels don't get any better than this!... Heath Ledger was amazing as the joker (R.I.P.) and Aaron Eckhart was suprisingly a great choice for Two-Face... and Christian Bale was of course once again great as Batman.... but the villians in this movie (ecspecially Ledger) put on such an excellent show that you forgot about some of the flaws (Two-face in the gasoline accident :S) and just went with it, because this movie is a masterpiece!... although, i have one complaint, why did they kill off Two-Face so fast, and they didn't kill off joker (which is a good thing as he's not supposed to die yet) but how are they gonna bring him into the next film... ahh, hopefully Nolan goes with two years instead of three because i can't wait for the next film... but for now i'll just watch dark knight a few more times in the theaters before it's DVD release :) (Reply to this) |

smartmoviekid writes: on Jul 19 2008 04:32 PM it deserves every dollar of the hopeful 150 million it'll earn its first week. one of the very best films i have ever seen. i hope that the oscars will recognize the sheer perfection of this film..and give it several nominations, especally a win for heath ledger...and not ignore it just because of its label as a "comic book movie" (Reply to this) |

JunjunM3 writes: on Jul 19 2008 04:32 PM HAHAHA salsa dancing emo spiderman is about to be pushed off the top. Even more impressive is that TDK opened in the heart of the summer with more quality movies in theaters at the same time. Spiderman3 opened early May wherein there was nothing but garbage in theaters so it managed to take up 10,000 screens. TDK is at around 9000 from what I read. Way to go TDK (Reply to this) |

sunsaz writes: on Jul 19 2008 04:42 PM I'm sure the 4,300 screens it's showing at is helping the cause. Spidey 3's mark is likely to be in jeopardy. TDK will make $300 million easily. It probably even stands a puncher's chance at $400. Only record I'm still not sold on it taking is Titanic's record. As much as I'd love to see someone knock that overrated piece of junk off the top (and yes, I have actually seen the movie), even TDK will have to put in some overtime to try to scale that mountain. TheCaptain of TeamLoyalty writes: on Jul 19 2008 04:51 PM I want to know why everyone thinks this movie is the best ever. It is not even the best movie this year, Iron Man is slightly better and WallE is the best movie of the year by far. I want to know how you guys could put up with the worst batman voice ever, the pink elephant in the room(not killing joker, thus screwing themselves over), and the fact that the last act was kinda all over the place. Not to mention that it was so overhyped. (Reply to this) |

RuSTeDs writes: on Jul 19 2008 05:06 PM I hope Nolan gets the recognition he deserves with this, and becomes a major player in Hollywood and a force to be reckoned with. Nolan and Michael Mann are two of my favorite directors in hollywood right now. But the more success I see in TDK, the more upset I become at Heath Ledger's demise...I can only imagine the possibilities he couldve achieved after this. (Reply to this) |

Kollikodon writes: on Jul 19 2008 05:08 PM Dear Captain of TeamLoyalty, IT'S All A MATTER OF OPINION... the fact that its making so much money is a testament to the filmmakers and fans alike... I too believed Wall-E and Iron Man were good, but no where near the caliber that this was IN MY OPINION. (Reply to this) |

u1sart writes: on Jul 19 2008 05:12 PM You know it upsets me alot when ppl say that this movie sucks and that movie sucks... There are movies that are really worth the watch but sometimes ppl are so much into criqueing that we dont know the first thing to do to produce a successful Film. I think Spiderman 3 had couple flaws but i still think its a great movies.. But my question to all those who think it sucks, tell me what would you do if you were making the movie? What would you do to make it better? The Dark Knight is a well directed, written and produced over all i give it a 100% and it deserves every ounce of praise it can take. But some of you guys who still being the stoopid ones u are, you need to understand why you think a movie suck and what makes it suck. (Reply to this) |

JunjunM3 writes: on Jul 19 2008 05:26 PM In reply to this comment (#1896846) 4,300? you must mean theater count which is different from actual screen count. TDK will cross 300mil easily, and it will break into the 400mil range. I do agree that Titanic's 600.8mil domestic and 1.8bil worldwide is still far out of reach. I do believe though that TDK will become only the 4th film ever to reach a billion dollars in worldwide box office, joining Titanic, LOTR:ROTK, and POTC:DMC (Reply to this) |

EmmG389 writes: on Jul 19 2008 05:49 PM This movie has replay value all over it. Every scene in this movie is sick. The word of mouth on this movie is unbelievable. People are seeing it because people can't stop talking about it and don't want it ruined. I think it might have a very long theater life. If it breaks $200 million this week I would not be surprised. TheCaptain of TeamLoyalty writes: on Jul 19 2008 05:56 PM weapon, you think that batmans retarded voice was a masterpeice? Are you insane, this movie like all movies, except for WallE was flawed, and yet is still good, the third best movie this year. (Reply to this) |
