The event of the decade is here and has a plethera of features! If I offended any fan of "The Wire" or "Deadwood" by dismissing them, sorry. (Reply to this) |

jokerboy1991 writes: on Dec 08 2008 03:27 PM I will be receiving The Dark Knight tomorrow on blu ray. I think I am getting The Wire box set for Christmas, and if anyone is interested in it I say go to AMAZON because it is on sale there for 135 Bucks. I am looking forward to renting Deadwood, never got a chance to catch it and I have heard good things. (Reply to this) |

~*Admiral Snowstorm*~ writes: on Dec 08 2008 03:39 PM I hate to play the contrarian, but Man on Wire is what has me excited. Most realistic critics say The Dark Knight was pretty good but flawed, whereas Man on Wire is getting acclaim from all around from everybody. I don't want to sound all edgy and play into the backlash, but I'm pretty indifferent to The Dark Knight. It's on my Netflix Queue at about #150 or so, which is fairly high considering my Queue is full up...But Man on Wire is at #31, because there are only 30 movies out right now that I want to see before Man on Wire. The Dark Knight is alright news, but I was anticipating this week a lot more for Man on Wire. (Reply to this) |

indiefilmfan2 writes: on Dec 08 2008 04:45 PM I got Dark Knight in the mail earlier today and the special features are lengthy but mostly fluff and some of the featurettes are pretty redundant. Just like I Am Legend, WB will proabbly double-dip this, and hopefully finally give this film the treatment it deserves. LOST is an incredible show. The season 4 finale was simply masterful. The great thing about Lost is that it rewards its loyal viewers. This is not a show you can just casually watch here and there, which is why ABC can't seem to attract new viewers. (Reply to this) |

Jen Yamato writes: on Dec 08 2008 05:25 PM Admiral, it's interesting that you name Man on Wire as the release you're most interested in this week. It's a small documentary about a seemingly banal subject but it's got an incredible 100% Tomatometer rating and on many critics' best of the year lists. That said, when I watched it I thought it was good, but not great or a masterpiece; though it addresses certain events that were indeed spectacular, it's fairly subdued. Let us know what you think. gamecrazy2006 writes: on Dec 08 2008 05:39 PM FINALLY OMFG IVE BEEN WAITING. THE DARK KNIGHT IS THE BEST MOVIE OF 2008. THE SCORE IS OFFICIALLY ELIGIBLE AGAIN TO BE NOMINATED. BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR. HERE'S TO BEING NOMINATED FOR BEST PICTURE! (Reply to this) |
|
Confounded writes: on Dec 08 2008 05:44 PM In reply to this comment (#2175027) Ease off the Pixie Stix sport, everything will be OK. And while I do foresee it being nominated for Best Picture, I think it has a pretty slim (almost non-existant) chance of winning. It'll win a couple small-fry Oscars like best score or cinematography (the opening bank scene and the Japan scene are pure beauty). The best award we can all hope for is Supporting Actor, and I think we all know that. "We" being the fans pulling for it in the awards season. (Reply to this) |

Random_Jake writes: on Dec 08 2008 05:46 PM Horton was good. Of course getting Horton or Dark Knight on Netflix will probably take a year. I'll just buy it. (Reply to this) |

antiboy writes: on Dec 08 2008 06:52 PM I figured they'd at least put more Heath Ledger stuff on there. Although they're probably saving that material for some 10 year anniversary box-set so that they can call it "never before seen" or "unreleased" etc. (Reply to this) |

whitey_mcwhite writes: on Dec 08 2008 07:46 PM In reply to this comment (#2175029) Too bad The Dark Knight was disqualified for Best Score, so that's not going to happen. Oh, indiefilmfan2, I'd love to know who sent you a copy of The Dark Knight a day early, it's worth a reward to report it, and a fine for the company. I used to work in a video store, and that stuff is taken very seriously, even when it's just a day early. (Reply to this) |

jokerboy1991 writes: on Dec 08 2008 08:15 PM In reply to this comment (#2175017) Wait Jen can you give some info on the blu ray import of Red Cliff. I love Woo's early work but have loathed his new stuff. I presume it has english subtitles? Is it actually good, because I don't particularly want to pay 40 bucks but if it is a good Woo movie then I will. (Reply to this) |

Kudos Mooney writes: on Dec 08 2008 09:08 PM Kudos, Admiral Snowstorm! Way to bring some sense into this Batman jizz-fest! Seriously, I know you guys loved the movie, and it was good, no doubt, and I am all for comic book movies getting their due credit in the eyes of the common moviegoer, but there were many better films (such as, uh, Man on Wire). You really should get out more. (Reply to this) |

danterandal19 writes: on Dec 08 2008 09:31 PM I'm going to ignore the elephant in the room and talk about "Horton Hears a Who". Well,Horton's a big elephant literally, but I was talking about a metaphorical one of "TDK" releasing tomorrow. I just think that that movie is pretty underrated, and I might pick up a copy on Blu-ray (next week, of course). Plus, has anyone heard of Jim Carrey doing a commentary on one of his movies before, because that is very interesting if "Horton" is his first one. Also, can't wait to see "Man on Wire"- it's at the top of my "queue"; I'll get to it after i finish finals and send back "The Crow". (Reply to this) |

I hope Warners didn't leave folks outdated DVD folks, like me, out in the cold this holiday season. If I may ask a question, when buying a Blue-Ray player,do you need a high dfinition tv as well, to make it worth the purchase? Just asking, thanks for any help R.T.community. P.S. Great commentary from top Rotten Tomatoe Matt!! Really made me LoL imagining the great Howard Cossell broadcasting the Joker reign of chaos in the Chicago er uh... Nesto writes: on Dec 09 2008 01:59 AM There sure are a lot of fanboys on here! Its the internet though so what can you do... The movie is okay, very flawed though and I love Nolan. Its just annoying hearing all the ludicrous praise. Greatest movie ever ? Should win Best Picture Oscar ? Get a grip. I love movies. TDK is no where near the top of my list. Begins is higher IMO. BUT to each his/her own. In a few years we'll see how well it holds up. Honestly, take Joker away and what exactly did you love ? The lack of Batman ? His voice ? The excess of Harvey Dent ? The constant preaching of good vs evil ? The ferry scene ? Btw, you all love Ledger so much I'm sure you've all seen Brokeback (I have). (Reply to this) |

Daniel R. writes: on Dec 09 2008 05:52 AM The movie was fantastic through and through. The Special Edition 2-Disc was NOT. You buy a 2-Disc because you're interested in owning the special features, and this set simply doesn't deliver AT ALL. Save your money people, just get the single disc if you want to satiate your appetite for "at home" Batman viewing. (Reply to this) |

I can't wait to pick this movie up from FYE (even though Best Buy has a better price lol) I think it's pretty crazy that Man on Wire is also coming out this week as well. I still in disbelieve that this movie is now on DVD. Feels like it was just yesterday when i spent the best 12 bucks (included my friends ticket) of my entire life on this masterpiece. I don't think it's even fair to call The Dark Knight a movie, it's an event. (Reply to this) |

whitey_mcwhite writes: on Dec 09 2008 10:38 AM In reply to this comment (#2175419) It just got approved, so it's all good. Anyway, there are a lot of snobs on this site period! A movie could be enjoyable, but if it isn't at least above a 70% tomatometer people start bashing the film. Case in point: Four Christmases. It's not the best film ever, but it's an enjoyable little Christmas movie. The moment it came out though people started bashing it and it's actors without seeing it. I pay attention to critics part of the time too, but if people like a movie isn't that what matters? I thought movies were supposed to be for entertainment, not snobfests! (Reply to this) |

ANTHONY M. writes: on Dec 09 2008 01:37 PM LEDGER MAKES THIS MOVIE GREAT WITH A GREAT PERFORMANCE OTHER THAN THAT IT'S REALLY BATMAN BEGINS 2. THIS IS A MOVIE THAT LIGHTS UP ANYTIME THE JOKER'S ON SCREEN......... (Reply to this) |
|
ANTHONY M. writes: on Dec 09 2008 01:43 PM Not knoking it...not that it really matters..all the actors are spot on, but it's a movie that's not really re-watchable like the spidey films....I know it made a gazillion bucks and that's cool cause well see this genre get the respect it deserves and we'll keep getting more of these movies made. and attention to the great story lines of certain comics will get noticed.. Which is great news considering all the crappy re-makes there throwing at us (earth stood still, etc.) this is a good movie, well directed and executed with no real noticeable flaws... just not a movie to see 4 times and still get goose-bumps.. JOKER ASIDE...... Thats my 2 cents! NUFF SAID (Reply to this) |

Kudos Mooney writes: on Dec 10 2008 12:59 AM I am not knocking the film, it was rather good. I am not trying to take away your fanboy moments; I have them, too (albeit for different films). I am not going to lie and say I wasn't crazy-excited for this film with the rest of you. However, Wall-E was better. Man on Wire was better. It may be one of the top ten of the year...but of your life? Seriously? Is Underworld on that top 10 list as well? Are there even ten on the list? Well, of course you've got Shawshank Redemption! Who doesn't!? Point is: This is a great moment for comic book movies (although no Oscar...who gives two ****s about that show anyway). But is this film art? By no means. Sure it's enjoyable. Role Models was enjoyable. Pinapple Express was enjoyable. So was this film. But it didn't push me or pull me towards a greater understanding of myself or the world. So if it just sets out to do one thing and does it well, well good on it. But there are better films out there. *Spoilers* Especially when you kill off Harvey Two-Face like that. What a waste. (Reply to this) |

tabascoman77 writes: on Dec 10 2008 10:45 AM Sorry, Nesto. While I agree that TDK is NOT the best of the year (Wall-E holds that distinction), it's the best Batman movie ever made and definitely one of the best comic book films ever made. This is coming from a movie-lover, not a fanboy. Your defense ("take away Ledger/Eckhart/etc") is really lame, too. Gee...that makes sense.: if you take away characters, a movie sucks. That's brilliant. The overall story was very well-written. It was complex, well thought-out, and deeper than most comic book films. I like Christian Bale, I thought Eckhart made a great Harvey Dent and I love Michael Caine and Gary Oldman as well. Not only that, but Heath Ledger was unrecognizable as The Joker and if an actor can pull that off, that's a huge plus. There are only some actors who have managed to do that. Oh, and I am SURE that a lot of people have seen Ledger's other movies. I've seen Brokeback Mountain. I've also seen 10 Things I Hate About You long before Ledger was even a household name. I've also seen Monster's Ball and A Knight's Tale. I thought he was a decent actor even before the movie. So, in conclusion, the buzz over TDK is warranted even though I think it's the number 2 movie. (Reply to this) |

cinemascribe writes: on Dec 10 2008 09:08 PM If Disney's push to have Wall-E nominated for Best Picture pays off, TDK won't win (this is assuming TDK is even nominated). I thoroughly enjoyed TDK, but Wall-E is the better of the two films hands down. On the other hand, Ledger is a lock for Best Supporting Actor..and he deserves it. Forget any notions of a sympathy vote..the Joker as portrayed by Ledger is comparable to iconic cinematic figures such as Hannibal Lecter, Norman Bates and Darth Vader. This is coming from a guy who actually didn't like the physical manifestion of the Joker's appearance ([part of the reason the comic character went insane in the first place was because chemicals turned his hair green and bleached his skin to clown white..so what do we get? a bad hairdye job and sloppy face paint. Not the same thing) and felt cheated by the lack of the famous post-mortem, chemically induced rictus grin kill(carving a smile in some dead guy's face doesn't amount to the same thing in my opinion). However, there's no denying Ledger nailed the psychology of the character in a manner that has never been achieved and that more than compensated for these other shortcomings.. he really sold the dark poetry of The Joker. That's why he deserves to be recognized. (Reply to this) |

It's in my top 3 favorite movies, and hearing people say it ain't that great, you can imagine how I feel. Or not. Let me give you an example. "2001: A Space Odyssey is overated." "Blad Runner is boring." "The Hustler was dissapointing." " The African Queen was garbage." And guess what, I mean all that! (Yes I've seen them.)
