Nolan, del Toro, Stanton and More on Golden Tomatoes
The directors react to winning the greatest award in the universe.

Awards season is officially in full swing, with the Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globes already behind us and several more ceremonies scheduled in the weeks to come. RT is no stranger to the process, and since our very own Golden Tomato Awards have been finalized, we thought it would be nice to share with you, our faithful readers, how some of the recipients have responded. Click here to discover what won the Golden Tomatoes and then read on here for the directors' reactions.

Andrew Stanton - Writer/Director, WALL-E (96% Tomatometer)
WALL-EWe got the Golden Tomato for Finding Nemo and I never thought I'd get it again, so to have it happen a second time is just so thrilling. It's hard to not be bowled over by it, because you can't beat that Tomatometer number. The facts are right there, everybody likes it so much! Winning the Golden Tomato Award twice is really going to spoil me -- everything is going to be a letdown after this. It's a huge honor, it really is.

Christopher Nolan - Co-Writer/Director, The Dark Knight (94% Tomatometer)
The Dark KnightI'm just glad to keep my head above the splats. Thank you for the honor.

James Marsh - Director, Man on Wire (100% Tomatometer)
Man on WireThis is the most unexpected and gratifying honour for a small film like ours to receive. Rotten Tomatoes has become the definitive site for people who are passionate about movies and I am absolutely thrilled that Man on Wire is their best reviewed film of the year.

Brad Anderson - Director, Transsiberian (90% Tomatometer)
TranssiberianI'm truly honored to be served this Golden Tomato! It's my favorite vegetable... or is it a fruit? Seriously, as a filmmaker who puts his heart and soul into every movie I make it's really nice when you know that critical opinion is on your side... and Rotten Tomatoes makes sure you know, one way or the other!

Mitchell Lichtenstein - Writer and Director, Teeth (82% Tomatometer)
TeethI have to be honest: when I set out to make a film about a vengeful vagina, critical acclaim was not at the forefront of my mind. But the fact that critics embraced this film should encourage other filmmakers that it's OK to take chances in this genre, which is so often, and justifiably, maligned.

Guillermo Del Toro - Director, Hellboy II: The Golden Army (88% Tomatometer)
Hellboy II: The Golden ArmyI am VERY HAPPY to have a Golden Tomato!

Eran Kolirin - Director, The Band's Visit (98% Tomatometer)
The Band's VisitI am happy and honored to receive the gorgeous Golden Tomato from your site, which in the past year, as I spent more time Googling my name and trying to relive my past glory than actually writing and working again, has been my favorite ego booster on the net. Success is indeed a comfortable bed, and I like to sleep. Thanks a lot.

LOL I love the director of Teeth's response, while I cant say I dug the movie I would say it tried something new. This list proves to me why Rottentomatoes is better at giving awards and recognition then the golden globes (cough- the oscars too -cough), its nice to see everyone get a piece of the tomato they deserve. They all made something new and refreshing, and are these guys are the some of the biggest contributers as to why 2008 was a great year at the movies.

What the hell, did he say, a vengeful vagina?

Anyway, "The Dark Knight", "WALL-E", both among my top 25 faves, and "Man On Wire", which I just saw, is the best documentry I've ever seen. And the really underated "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" getting one is great. I mean when I read that "27 Dresses" made more money than it, I lost hope in humanity. As for "Teeth"... looks like channeling your inner exploitation film director works out. Maybe someone could still do a remake to "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls." Well, Golden Tomatoes, you're my new favorite award. I hated the Oscars since Best Animated Feature was made.
