This is the problem when you're an exceptional, visionary filmmaker. When you give people something extraordinary, they expect it every time. Anything short of that feels like a letdown.
Guido - Nolan's films are arguably already more iconic. And Who are you to judge someone's maturity when you spend most of your day trolling a movie website?
Guido V- But see, 3 movies is a kinda unfair way to look at it, because it's not just 3 movies, it's over ten years in the universe of the films. A few years between BB and TDK and 8 years between TDK and TDKR. That's a long time for a man without powers(spider-man, superman) to do anything let alone save the biggest city on Earth over and over again. I don't think it's particularly fair to say Joker is playing second fiddle to Bane, as the Joker is already called among the top 5 or so screen villains in history, and if they were to recast him it would just be dumb even if some other actor did an amazing job. The one thing I would fight you to the death (message board-style) about is who is the better Joker. It's obviously Ledger. Nicholson was great, but he was a clown. Yes, the Joker appears to be a clown. But how menacing is a man who prances around and cackles, wearing bright purple full-body suits and has flowers that spray acid or just water or w/e? If the Joker were a real villain, someone we would buy as a real human being in this world (as we buy a man dressing like a bat fighting crime) it has to be like Ledger's joker. Not a clown who worked for the mob, but an insane person who grew up in an abusive home, who let the dark underbelly of Gotham crawl under his skin and inhabit him, who smears paint on his face and wears something that looks like he found it under a dumpster and put razor blades in his mouth to make him look like he's smiling. That is evil. Nicholson, on the other hand, probably read 3 or 4 comics and said "Okay wardrobe, make me look like a clown!"
If we're going to constantly compare this to the iconic joker performance then I guess TDKR will always loose some points in critics eyes who by now are expecting that same momentum. It cant be done get over it! It's not a comparison but a complementary piece to the batman begins essentially part 2 - adding value to that nooanistic batmanverse if you see in that light then this review looses its main points.
Zauri, I've seen you trolling other websites with the same garbage. People here are just hoping for a good movie and aren't too concerned that Batman isn't fighting Zombies or other supernatural beings that you so called 'Batman purest' crave so much.
I'm not going to bash Cristy for her opinion but it seems a bit odd to me to base a film's worth almost solely on the success of the previous installment. Just because she doesn't like this as much as The Dark Knight she gives it a bad review, but she doesn't even have the guts to give it a star rating, probably because she thinks its a 3/5 film (her review read like it) but she doesn't want it to get a positive on the RT meter in case she loses some hits.
It's not a bad review, I'm excited. I'm sure I'll enjoy the movie. Truth be told I always enjoyed the campier movies more, but Chirstopher Nolan is a great film maker.
you are like all the fair-weather batman fans out there who only liked the dark knight because of heath ledger. so Snow White, Rock of Ages, and Spiderman are all better movies...please
ignore her review she's bias and ignorant go read time's, empire, variety, rolling stone, ign, hollywood reporter reviews they are more intelligent and constructive reviews
Actually no he isn't. She fails in everyone of those counts he brings up, I don't see how he is being Biased unless you see it as such. Which in itself is very flawed thinking.
Doesn't consider direcing, screenplay, acting and cinematography? Magic Mike was directed by Stephen Soderbergh (you should know who that is), and was far from lacking in any of the other categories you mentioned. Don't talk about things you don't know about.
Tyler H., You can't bring logic into an argument with these people. Magic Mike is a terrible movie because the homophobic masses said so. Just like when they all complained about Heath Ledger playing Joker, followed by 15 million Brokeback Batman jokes.
Maybe you guys should watch the movies you criticize the critics over before making your judgments. You haven't seen either movie so your opinion is moot...
You don't think she's a "bias critic". You think she's a "biased critic". "Bias" is a bloody noun, for Pete's sake. Learn some English before talking tripe. As it happens, I see no sign of bias in her reviews.
So I guess credibility in your eyes means sharing your exact taste in movies, right? Here's a challenge for you, and for all of the idiots who will inevitably use the same "this reviewer loved movies that I hated" crap as an excuse: Go review the histories of the critics who gave this a positive review. When you find even one movie where you disagree, go ahead and post this same nonsense in the comments. Have fun.
I'm reasonably sure that The Dark Knight Rises could be almost three hours of Christian Bale struggling to get from his wheelchair onto the toilet and taking a hard poo and it would still be more compelling than Battleship, though.
33% of critics. Not every critic agrees with the Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer every time. The people who point out Rotten movies that a critic liked are going nowhere with their excuse. It's just trying to make them feel better.
I bet if you looked through the history of critics that liked the movie there will be some positive reviews for bad movies and vice versa. Go away you horrible vermin.
