Others will see it differently, but for me this is a disappointingly clunky and bombastic conclusion to a superior series -- Nolan's biggest and worst movie to date.
Lmao. You all praise Nolan's Bat movies as being for adults, yet you all act like children.
Samir J-
You have not even seen the movie. But I know you are one of those who name this one of your top 3 favorite movies of all time before even seeing it, so I am not even surprised.
Even among the positive reviews, many say this movie does not have a good script, has a very clunky first half, and only really comes together in the last third.
In my book? Yes, yes it does. Most of my favorite movie critics are disappointed with this film. This is Spider-Man 3 all over again, and once the opening weekend ends the backlash will come to this film hard. If it fails as a film and most of all fails as a Batman film, all the hope is lost for the word of mouth of this film, regardless how many of Nolan fans sugarcoat that.
Zauri S has it right. It's pretty clear that a ton of even the limited love (87% fresh, yes, but look how few rate it with high 4/4 or 5/5, etc, and listen to the nearly universal opinion that it's weaker than TDK) for this film come by the good faith Nolan has built with the first two films. Which is fine. Nolan deserves that. But the writing is on the wall. He blew it with this one. Hey, it happens. I'll still go see it and I'll probably forgive the flaws and have a good time. But he'll pay at the box office for making it too long, too clunky, too political, and too heavy. Doesn't invite repeat viewings.
Hey jack white, why don't you liek good moviez? Marvel is for children but dark knight is for adults who like adults content. Maybe you're not adult enough to like it?
This reviewer liked Spiderman 3 (a movie you clearly despise). So, I guess the fact that you are so clearly invested in a review that was written by someone that fhought Spiderman 3 (again, a movie you despise) was good says that you really have not done any real research on one of your "favorite" critics, and thus you might want to rethink jumping on his bandwagon. If you hate Spiderman 3, then you would have to admit that his review might not line up with how you actually feel about this film once you watch it.
Im not a nolanite as i like to call them but the score is consistent with his other movies for the most part. Im a huge raimi fan but to even compare this to spiderman 3 is pretty laughable. The actual score was about a 8.2 which is the number people should be looking at
Zauri S... What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul
I disagree, it's not in the least "clunky". One particular impression I got during the first third part of the movie: how effectively and smoothly Nolan shifted one scene to another, from one character to another (and there were many characters). I kept thinking: I should have gotten lost, given the double servings of new characters and the intricate plot they were put into. But nothing of that sort happened! It was so natural, so simple. A couple of memorable lines were enough to etch that character forever in the viewers' mind. It was a master filmmaker at work!
I agree with you. Nolan moved across many points in a very quick manner, and none of it was confusing. He wrote the film in a very simple way, never going deep into the issues. Much like recent Marvel films (Avengers, Captain America), but of course what separates this and other Marvel films is that the movie actually made sense and had heart.
Although, I have to agree with Tom Charity's review. While I wouldn't give this movie a bad review, it definitely was Nolan's biggest and worst movie to date, and I believe the other critic's reviews agree with this. The movie without a doubt was epic, it kept you on the edge, but the plot/story was nowhere near as good as Nolan's other movies.
Back to Jerry's point. While the movie was simple and Nolan wrote the script very well, the quick pace of the film hurt the film in many ways. You had less feelings and emotions towards many characters and the tense environment of Gotham. In my opinion, this indeed harmed the quality of the film. To Nolan's defense, he was given only 2.5 hours to fit in, what seemed to be, 4 hours worth of material.
It seems like Nolan consistently tries to pack more into a feature film than he really should. That's the same problem that I have with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and it sounds like it's about twice as bad with this one. I wouldn't rush to "defend" him on that - he should know how much can fit into 2 hours, and if what he wants to do won't fit, he needs to make some sacrifices.
there's no way this is his 'worst movie ever made.' i mean, you have the prestige, Following, and Batman Begins that are all lower RT rankings, but subjectively they 'could' be better. But to claim that this is utter trash is just preposterous.
Read the review again: he says that it's the biggest and worst Nolan's movie to date, not the worst film ever. Nolan is human and he messed up. Come in terms with that and be civil, folks.
What a ridiculous, juvenile response to a critic's review. Is this what you learned in school - rather than to engage in a rational dialogue, you call names? Oh wait, you probably went to the Jerry Springer school of class and culture.
"You gave [FILM TITLE] a good review, but you hated TDKR, so you're an idiot."
Typical fanboy defense mechanism. So what if he liked the Justin Bieber movie? That doesn't change the fact that he didn't like this movie. He's a critic, his job is to state his opinion, whether it's a good one or a bad one. Just because he liked what you think is a bad movie does not make his opinion of TDKR invalid. He didn't like this movie, get over it!
are you not listening? the dude could be Jesus of Nazareth but if he gave Bieber a positive, i'm not believing a word he says. No fanboyism, no trolling, bieber lovers are not my class of critic.
Like I said, his job is to judge movies. You don't have to listen to what he says, but it's his opinion not yours. He's obviously important enough to be a top critic, and people care enough about him to comment like this. His reaction to this movie is making an impact, whether it be good or bad.
well i suppose that's what you choose to believe. My opinion is that his final say on this movie is poorly supported. I'm not a fanboy, I love Joss Whedon's works like Firefly and Serenity, but TDKR has the mind of a master behind him. Him being a top critic means nothing. Remember Armond White? The guy who claimed Toy Story 3 was a giant toy advertisement? Yeah. Having the little star doesn't mean anything, because more often than not it's not the writer's opinion that matters, it's the number of hits to his website that does.
I will agree that there are hack critics who have no idea what they are talking about. With that said, they are still critics and there is honestly nothing we can do to stop them from reviewing movies. Do I agree with what Charity says? No, he didn't like TDKR because it was too conservative or some bullshit. But sitting around and saying how much of a hack he is will do nothing. His review isn't going anywhere.

Okay, Samir. You need to calm the f*** down. Take a chill pill and a deep breath. It's a movie. I appeal to your inner sanity (if you have any).
