The Dawn Patrol (Flight Commander) (1930)
Overwhelmed by the guilt of sending fliers out to die, the leader of a World War I British air-force squadron hands the responsibility over before gallantly flying off on a suicide mission. This early Howard Hawks aviation talkie was remade eight years later with Errol Flynn, retitled Flight Commander.

Critic Reviews for The Dawn Patrol (Flight Commander)
Young recruits are sent airborne toward certain death, but Hawks locates a strange joy in their grim fate.
Howard Hawks's compact economy and avoidance of stylistic razzle-dazzle allowed for concentration on storytelling, to great effect.
