"The Expendables 2" is lazily satisfied with repeating the first movie's formula, shortcomings and grisly strengths alike, just as the first movie was content to slavishly, ploddingly cover the hits of the '80s.

What IS the point? Oh that's right, campy characters and pointless one-liners in favor of strong writing and actual WORK to make a good movie, all for the $$$. THAT'S the point of the Expendables. That's the point of all Hollywood these days.

Not all movies need to have strong writing to be enjoyable to watch. Expendables 2 is a guilty indulgence, one where you know the writing is going to be bad to begin with, and that's what makes the movie great. It's an elevated "B" action movie that's meant to be fun, and it delivers.
