If you enjoy a good mystery that's as grimy as a stomped on cigarette on the pavement then this film will have you hooked. Fans of the books should be pleased.
Yeah, no, that's not right. We just did a side by side viewing. The remake doesn't come close to the original which is the "grimy" version, as it turns out. Details are important. In the American version, *everyone* is living well and rich. The widow of the carpenter? Living in an impeccable dwelling, but in the original? She lives in a pensioner's digs, which makes sense. In fact, all of the original looks much more "lived in" and realistic. The remake, sadly, is what Hollywood excels at, beautifully rendered knockoffs that don't come close to the original.
