Beyond the fact that Fitzgerald is my hero and Baz Luhrmann is my guilty pleasure, this looks awesome. Who knew classic literature could be sexy?

I have high hopes for "The Great Gatsby": perhaps this will finally be the vessel that delivers DiCaprio his long-awaited Oscar.

Having read the great novel I have no doubt that the material will be just as great on the big screen.

I don't like Baz Luhrmann. I hated Romeo+Juliet beyond words, and I wanted to bang my head against a wall after watching it. However I do like Carey Mulligan. I like Carey Mulligan very much. Joel Edgerton and Tobey Maguire are good too, and the three of them are the only reasons I plan on seeing this. Here's hoping this isn't quite as bad as Romeo+Juliet, or (dare I say it) that it will be good.

The most boring read in the history of literature is now being made into a film. Again. Since the first two adaptations were so bad, I would have hoped that would be the end of this...but low and behold. Another Great Gatsby film. Great cast, but it's not enough to save this movie from the director of Moulin Rouge. So, any hope of getting a story out of this will be thrown away to showcase just how "artsy-fartsy" Baz Luhrmann thinks he is. Fitting, I guess, considering how pretentious the book is. No thanks.

The two awesome cast members, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, are relevant together in one movie? I'm definitely interested in seeing this. Considering that it is based on a novel, it better be a good one.

For me, it's the comedy event of the year, and in 3D, no less.

"The Great Gatsby" was one of my favorite books from High School, and definitely a book I will re-read many more times! I honestly cannot imagine anyone better as Nick Carraway than Toby Maguire, likewise with Jay Gatsby and DiCaprio! I look forward to this!

To my great surprise, the director's madcap style found a mature doldrum in the second half that was quite pleasing. however, it made the whole film feel off-kilter with the insane nature of the first part.

Better than i expected. DiCaprio outdoes himself as the optimiist of the time.

Love the book, love DiCaprio, and the trailer had be from start to finish. This movie might just blow us all out of the water I have high expectation for it! Excited to say the least!

Loved every second this visually stunning, over-the-top, gorgeous spectacle!! DiCaprio is slightly more controlled than his ferocious character in "Djano Unchained" and Mulligan continues to pull off innocent but educated ingenue just as she did in "An Education." Elizabeth Debicki is fabulous as is every other actor -- choreographed to a T and dressed to the nines. It worked for me!

Ok I'm really excited to see this movie. I'm trying to keep an open mind especially after listening to the album, (Not impressing at all) but I'm really looking forward to it.

This movie is mediocre. Also, 3-D is my least favorite invention, ever.

The Great Gatsby is without a doubt the worst Great Gatsby film I have ever seen

It was ok. Definitely don't watch it in 3d. Saw a screening. Wouldn't pay money to watch it.

Saw it. Found it visually engrossing, and the 3D well used in a movie meant to be a drama; specially the scene when we first meet Daisy. Her husband, Tom, comes out as a bully instead of the spoiled, decadent man he is meant to be. Di Caprio is good as ever or better. The modern soundtrack kept us from immersing ourselves into the Roaring Twenties and the dialogue tried to followed Fitzgerald's delicate prose, but no cigar (then again, if those writers could've, they would've been able to write the great american novel, right?). Worth seeing, but no Oscar here.

It doesn't follow the messages from the book, and looks too modernized for eyecandy...Not a good sign.

The trailer looks a mess. Made for people with Attention Deficit Disorder. I expect the same from the film.

After watching Baz Luhrmann's remake of The Great Gatsby, I'm convinced it's really a gay remake of Moulin Rouge. Instead of Ewan McGregor as Christian, we have Tobey Maguire as Nick. Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby takes on the Satine role played by Nicole Kidman. Oh, let's not forget Richard Roxburgh's Duke who is now Joel Edgerton as Tom. The openings of the two films are nearly the same with a want to be writer putting his story to paper with various words superimposed on the screen. Then, after a brief introduction of some of the principal characters, we're introduced to the larger than life Satine, oops, I mean Gatsby. Next, is the convoluted love triangle; or in this case, a quadrangle. This leads to a collision of emotions and confrontations that ends tragically. Of course, it wouldn't be complete without the classic 1920's sets, costumes, and dancing set to modern music. In fact, throughout the movie, I kept seeing the major similarities to Moulin Rouge. Even the ending seemed the same. As a director, I'm afraid Luhrmann may be a one trick pony. Also, save your money and skip the 3D version. It adds nothing to the experience.

Now back to the gay themes. We get the feeling from the very beginning that Nick is uncomfortable being hit on by women although all his friends seem to be women. But, then, he is all lit up and glowing when he meets Gatsby. Alas, as is a common problem in gay cinema, Gatsby is straight and loves Nick's cousin Daisy (Carey Mulligan) who's really a lonely woman who likes to hang out with her non threatening gay friends. Nick doesn't care. He'll pal around and hang out with Gatsby while hiding his true feelings for the enigmatic blonde pretty boy just as long as he can be close to him. However, Nick sees hope as Daisy is currently married to Tom who hates Gatsby. What will happen? Will Gatsby realize his love for Daisy has been a mistake all this time and decide to ditch her for Nick. Will Nick come out and admit to Gatsby his passionate love for him with hopes Gatsby will reciprocate. Will Tom gay bash both Gatsby and Nick. For the answers, see The Great Gatsby when it opens May 10th. Or wait until it hits your local LGBT film festival.
