Now back to the gay themes. We get the feeling from the very beginning that Nick is uncomfortable being hit on by women although all his friends seem to be women. But, then, he is all lit up and glowing when he meets Gatsby. Alas, as is a common problem in gay cinema, Gatsby is straight and loves Nick's cousin Daisy (Carey Mulligan) who's really a lonely woman who likes to hang out with her non threatening gay friends. Nick doesn't care. He'll pal around and hang out with Gatsby while hiding his true feelings for the enigmatic blonde pretty boy just as long as he can be close to him. However, Nick sees hope as Daisy is currently married to Tom who hates Gatsby. What will happen? Will Gatsby realize his love for Daisy has been a mistake all this time and decide to ditch her for Nick. Will Nick come out and admit to Gatsby his passionate love for him with hopes Gatsby will reciprocate. Will Tom gay bash both Gatsby and Nick. For the answers, see The Great Gatsby when it opens May 10th. Or wait until it hits your local LGBT film festival.
