Alive is also a good film.

Does anyone watch quest for fire past that sex scene in the beginning? Seriously?
Jan 24 - 05:39 AM
The Road should be here..

That may have been the singly most depressing movie ever. Not only was it depressing, but it literally beat me over the head and shoulders with its bleakness. The real Survival story is how I didn't slit my own wrists just to see some color while watching that film.
Not saying it's bad. But MAN is it ever NOT a movie to take a fun date to.
Jan 24 - 07:17 AM
Yeah just take Debbie Downer dates to this one.
Jan 27 - 05:26 AM
Never was impressed with Open Water. The 2010 Austrailian film, The Reef, was much better.
Jan 24 - 06:33 AM
Ahh "Cast Away." Now there is another perfect example of the juggernaut known as Tom Hanks.

Am I the only one that thinks that in a "Survival Movie" the protagonist should, you know... SURVIVE? There are at least three on here that don't belong on that basis alone.
Buried is a snuff film.
Into the Wild glorifies a wildly unprepared "free spirit" whose own stupidity gets him killed.
Open Water is good, but again, a distinct lack of surviving. In fact, they survive the shortest amount of time.
If survival is about overcoming harrowing and extraordinary circumstances through one's own effort, then I offer the following substitutions:
and, though not as well reviewed, it pretty much is the ULTIMATE survival movie: ALIVE -
By the way, you'll note, all four of these are true stories.

I'd have liked to have seen "The Road" on this list
Jan 24 - 08:17 AM
I thought Predators was a pretty good survival movie.
I enjoyed Quest for Fire and Rabbit Proof Fence
Hows about 'Cool Hand Luke' .....and 'Hombre'

I'm surprised that no one here has mentioned Touching the Void. Its on the list, of course, but its like no one here has seen it...because, if you had, you would be going fucking aye skippy!
TTV kicks ASS in the survival film world, no question.
WATCH THIS FILM!

"The Way Back " is the best movie.
Jan 25 - 07:06 AM
Hell Comes to Frogtown - last man on earth who is not firing blanks and has to save 3 princesses to repopulate. Humanities survival - is there a greater survival story??!?! HELL NO!
Jan 25 - 08:19 AM
I Survived FROGTOWN!!! Gritty VHS desolation. Nothing but Sandahl Bergman for nourishment.
Jan 25 - 06:00 PM
"Buried" was horrible. That's why it mostly bypassed theaters and went straight to DVD. Oh and Reynolds ruined the GL movie.
Jan 25 - 09:08 AM
Frozen and The Road!!!!!
Jan 25 - 10:17 AM
I would argue Deliverance should be on this list.
