Watching The Hunger Games, I was struck both by how slickly Ross hit his marks and how many opportunities he was missing to take the film to the next level -- to make it more shocking, lyrical, crazy, daring.

Yes. Yes. Yes. The movie totally sucked. Terrible acting. Terrible script. The whole thing was a joke

While I don't in a million years think The Hunger Games deserves a rotten, this is the only negative comment that deserves any merit. I think what was great about the film was truly great but it was missing a certain 'jena se qua' that really could have taken this film above and beyond any book to film adaptation. Ross got close enough to it that not achieving it was almost more disappointing than if he complete missed the nail on the head.

I liked the movie. The first hour was incredibly tense and insane, and I am not afraid to say that the countdown for the beginning of the games had me sweating. Had the movie kept going that way it would be one of the greatest movies. Ever.
It would also take its rating to M!
But hey, that is why the Battle Royale manga is so great: the situation is absurd, the violence is pornographic and many people go insane.
The Hunger Games themselves are disappointing. The movie that comes before them is amazing.

He gives a fresh review for Breaking Dawn Part 1, and gives a rotten to this masterpiece? -.-

I would gladly respect your opinion...but...to give this a rotten rating and that trash called Breaking Dawn a fresh rating? !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apr 21 - 06:06 AM
I agree, but if they wanted to go all out it would have had to be rated R.

Well the first Harry Potter movie WAS rotten.

Well they can't do that with the PG-13 rating and young adult demographics, the ones the books were aimed towards, since it'll lose the producers and the studio big bucks. Are you seriously overestimating this box-office-receipt-carrying casual audience? Lol. Just give the population their share of diluted "Saving Private Ryan" with teenage melodrama, CGI-enhanced excess, and a message that could be written on the head of a pin, all while staying galaxies away from anything considered arthouse. And cut! Print! Let the $$$ roll in. Moving on.

I AGREE COMPLETELY! It did not live up to the hype, fans can argue as much as they want... but the fact is, this could've been a lot better.
