I have to agree with Matt. I've never read the books and I didn't enjoy the movie. There were a lot of elements that the movie just didn't flesh out enough which is fine if you know the story already.
Interesting that your a movie critic and yet found it difficult to follow the story. I've never read any of the books and found no trouble following the storyline in fact I found that some scenes were a bit redundant and unnecessary in there explanation of events. Perhaps I'm just more perceptive when it comes to the visual medium then most.
I think that the movie was very well done. Yes, there were some parts that were much different from the book(i.e. the mockingjay pin), but despite those flaws the story line was followed well and even if you had read the books, there was always something exciting. We all must remember that making a book based movie is very hard and that it would be boring if both were exactly alike. but again, we are all entitled to our own opinions.
Just finished the book and then watched a few trailers (missed it at the theater)...and I agree totally. Too slick and doesn't convey the dystopian vision of the book. I will watch it in toto, but I know I'll come back with the same review.
I didn't read the books and thought the movie was very slow and it didn't match the hype. The review is correct. The movie was drastically overrated. I can honestly say that the hunger games was the worst movie i watched this year.

I would have preferred it if the book were made into a TV series rather than a movie... JUST MY OPINION
