Total Recall: Fake (And Often Fatal) Movie Sports

Summary

Jennifer Lawrence hits the ground running this weekend with The Hunger Games, carrying a teen-friendly franchise-in-waiting that Hollywood's hoping will pick up where Harry Potter (and, later this year, Twilight) left off. And as a contestant in the titular games, she also joins a long film tradition of protagonists playing fictional sports -- one we decided would be perfect to discuss in this week's list. From action to fantasy, comedy to drama, it's time to play some fake games... Total Recall style! We've got BASEketball, Death Race, Quidditch, Rollerball, and plenty more cinematic athletic competitions that you should definitely not try at home! Back to Article

Technically, there is Muggle Quidditch, which is popular on college campuses.

I've never read the books.. hadn't even heard of them until the movie started getting attention. But I noticed the similarities when I heard about the plot.

Bigbrother .

Not really, except for the very generalized premise of people competing for thier lives. The Stephen King story itself is nothing like the Schwarzenegger movie based on it.

True, Running Man is only similar to Hunger Games in that its about a group of people fighting for their lives, and that its televised. yea its only similar in that way. lol

That's.. a pretty big similarity in terms of plot devices..

Not saying it's a bad thing. There are only so many ways to portray a dystopian future.

I've always wanted to play that game from "Never Say Never Again" about global domination with tazers in the joysticks. Glad to see "Quintet". I actually like that movie, but I admit that I did fall asleep the first couple times I tried to watch it.
