Movie Info

Martin Sheen may be the Grey Eminence of movies nowadays, but back in 1967 he often as not played switchblade-wielding punks. This he does, in the company of Tony Musante, in The Incident. After mugging a helpless old man, Sheen and Musante take over a subway car, terrorizing its occupants. In Stagecoach fashion, all the best and worst qualities of the passengers are brought to the surface by the presence of danger. Among the passengers are angry black man Brock Peters and his supplicative wife

It has been said about the film industry in the US, that it's a business whose commercial product just happens to be movies.

The sort of raw drama that, sad to say, never loses its topicality.

Audience Reviews for The Incident

Then newcomers Tony Musante and Martin Sheen are splendid as the couple of hedonists who give an unforgettable night in NYC subway to other, so called normal, but colourful variety of people only trying to get back home. This subway car carries more than just people, all the prejudices of race, sex, and economical condition, its air is stuffed by a sudden calamity, the tension is real, is palpable, it feels like a time bomb. If it had been directed by a household name in suspense/sociological dramas like Sidney Lumet, this would be more regarded nowadays for what it really is. A bold, tight, raw study of characters, about the apathy of city people, unable or simply uncaring to give each other a hand in moments of dispair.
