I think like this review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pPcEDCYWxA# its a bit hard to say, as there is some funny moments but its not a film i would go out and buy straight away on DVD, I do think also Jim Carrey needs some more leading man roles and he still feels to me a bit underused in this film
Has Steve Carrell ever done a really funny movie? Those early efforts like 40 year old virgin weren't really funny just ehhh. Take all these really terrible films and you have a very strong contender to the "Adam Sandler" title for star in need of some strong material and a few belly laughs...Lame and all those "Office" shows were/are real lame....just bad!
Don't ever compare Steve Carrell to Adam Sandler. The Office is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen and The 40 Year Old Virgin had me in tears. Sorry you disagree, but I gurantee that there aren't many people who feel the way you do.
I wouldn't compare Steve Carrell to Adam Sandler. Ever. Thats a terrible comparison. Sandler made some bad films but Adam Sandler is funny, Carrell tries to hard to be funny. For some reason, people like it.
Steve Carrell is a tool and WAY overrated. Steve Carrell's surrounding cast carries him while he acts like an idiot, but not a funny idiot...just an idiot.
Loved Alan Arkin's portrayal but the leads remind me of an offensively and negatively parodied version of Sigfried and Roy, with homophobic elements. Maybe I just don't like watching comedies where everyone seems to be trying to hard. There are some very funny bits but others just don't work.
I actually consider 46% to pretty good for a comedy since it's very rare that one gets rating above 40-50%. In any case I doubt the movie will be absolutely horrible with the reviews its gotten so far, mostly though I just want to see the movie to see how Steve Buscemi is incorporated in, that was the entire reason I had any interest in it to begin with.
I've been waiting for this movie for so long and really wanted it to be good but the trailers so far have been awful and the many negative reviews are reinforcing its mediocrity. Blah. Sucks too because this is the first PG-13 comedy in what seems like forever, and if it doesn't do well Hollywood is just going to keep churning out the R-rated raunch we've been getting nonstop for YEARS. I'm so sick of Apatow-brand humor. Really hoping Anchorman 2 isn't R.
I think the cast looks pretty good, but the writers and director are just "meh" for me. I hope it's good because we need more good movies in 2013, it's been just awful so far. I'll say 54%.
Trailer shows some funny parts, but I'm not sure what to think either. The fact that the movie has a PG-13 rating I find a bit disappointing, I was hoping from the trailer that the comedy would be a bit heavier than PG-13. The fact that Steve Buscemi and James Gandolfini are in this though really caught my attention, both are really good actors and usually pick quality films to be cast in.
Steve Buscemi's career revolved around some sort of comedy. Even in serious roles he's known for his vulgar sense of humor. And I don't have a problem with a PG-13 rating when it comes to comedy. Think Anchorman, Ricky Bobby, Dinner for Schmucks, Ace Ventura, etc. I think it's going to be hilarious.
