In this amusing fantasy, a combination of live-action and animated effects, Don Knotts plays scrawny bookkeeper Henry Limpet, who longs to help the U.S. after the outbreak of World War II. He becomes depressed after being turned down by the Navy, particularly after his pal George (Jack Weston) is accepted. Classic, silly Don Knotts fish-in-water fantasy.
Lame, yes. But it gave Don Knotts his first dive into movie stardom.
Knotts' best comedic features are his facial expressions and bumbling mannerisms, none of which he's able to employ as a cartoon fish.
Suitable only for the very, very young and the massively -- massively -- medicated.
Pretty bad...did anyone notice that Mrs. Limpet's voice sounded like the Target lady from SNL?

Silly? Yes. Odd? Yes. Occasionally dull? Yes. Do I kind of like it? Yes. Don Knotts stars as a man who really wants to join the Navy, but is not up to snuff.
