Movie Info

The living descendents of American Civil War Captain Robert Adams pool their creative talents in order to tell the remarkable story of their legendary ancestor in a film showing the sacrifices that some are willing to make in the name of love or country. As the Civil War gets underway, strong willed Captain Adams (producer/writer/actor Julian Adams) rounds up the guns and rallies his men to fight for their land to the dying breath. Before the war Adams was a simple planter who fell in love with Eveline (Gwendolyn Edwards) , a beautiful and intelligent schoolteacher from the north. Despite the knowledge that he may lose everything by entering into the conflict, however, Adams knew that the life he had and the life he wanted was worth the risk. Now, as he loses his best friend in battle, watches his town burn to the ground, and gets captured by the enemy and sent to prison, Adams draws on his love for the fair Eveline to carry him through his darkest hour.more

The film is passionately made, but its unapologetically romantic views of war and the Old South leave a bitter aftertaste.

It's easy to keep blaming Ken Burns for this kind of softcore Civil War porn, but enough is enough: This is a vanity project of the most indulgent order.

Audience Reviews for The Last Confederate: The Story of Robert Adams

The story didn't seem interesting or compelling enough to be made into a movie. The acting was also way below what I expected.

I did not get into the film. I am not really into love films. I did not find the acting believable. It did not help that the actors did not speak in accents.

½

First of all I'm a sucker for civil war dramas that promise romance so that right there drew me in. Nice true story but could have been done so much better. I give credit to the family for trying and there were a few good moments of elegant and beautiful cinematography.
