Movie Info

Leather Burners is one of the best of the eight "Hopalong Cassidy" entries of 1943. Adroitly scripted by Jo Pagano and expertly directed by Joseph Henaberry (who career dated back to 1915), the film finds Hoppy (William Boyd) and his pal California (Andy Clyde) on the prowl for cattle rustlers. Travelling incognito, Hoppy and California go to work for rancher Dan Slack (Victor Jory), who's in league with the rustlers. The climax takes place in a deserted mine, jealously guarded by crazed prospector Sam Bucktoe (a standout performance by George Givot). Sharp-eyed viewers will spot an unshaven Robert Mitchum in a bit part.more
