Anyone but Captain Jack Sparrow. I know most people love him in that role, but it's so annoying in the sequels! I almost turned off At Worlds End when he first appeared. He was so annoying and there was ten of him!

I changed my mind: DEFINITELY my favorite is Agent Sands from Once Upon a Time in Mexico. Just saw that movie last night and I gotta say the movie was terrible but Johnny Depp's character was so awesome for a number of reasons..
1. He was an asshole the entire movie but he was so likable that I rooted for him more than "El" (Antonio Banderas)
2. The badass blind gunslinger scene
3. His marijuana leaf belt buckle
4. His "Mexi-can or Mexi-can't" line to Danny Trejo
I really wish that Robert Rodriguez would make a film about just that character...

Gilbert Grape. a Great movie about real people. Johnny Depp has yet to beat this performance, in my opinion.

Don Juan Demarco (with Brando!) was a pretty good film.

Johnny Depp and do any role from a creepy candy factory owner, to a the world's worst/best pirate, to a stage-play author capturing inspiration from children, to talking lizard, to a socially depraved freak of science with gardening utensils for fingers, to a horrible director. Now hopefully he and his agents will put out for better roles then this, but I trust Johnny has nail this character too and out of respect for this chaplin-inspired actor, I will watch this movie, eventually.

Also.... Ichabod Crane (sleepy hallow), Dean Corso (9th gate), Mort Rainey (secret window).

Jack Sparrow>James Barrie>>>>>>The rest.

Jack Sparrow...but after a while he got kind of boring.
I also liked the Hatter...the dance at the end of the movie was kinda lame but other than that, I liked it. That is about it.

Your comments prove his versatility. From a woman's point of view, I'll mention Chocolate, Finding Neverland, and Benny and Joon (kicking the hat and dancing the potatoes reminiscent of Chaplin and Keaton)

I really really like Johnny Depp because he really doesn't take acting too seriously, which is why he does different types of roles so well. Reminds me a lot of Brando...
Jul 2 - 03:24 PM
He's had some excellent characters. Ichabod Crane, Edward Scissorhands, Captain Jack Sparrow, and the Mad Hatter are probably my favorites. But he's put a lot of life in all of the characters he's played so it's really hard to just pick a few.

Donnie Brasco ,Ed Wood

I forgot about Ed Wood. He did a good job with that.

Never saw sweeny todd, but the others are good.

Hmm very difficult to rank them. Most memorable of course are Edward Scissorhands and Captain Jack. Other than those two that are I loved Ichabod Crane and Ed Wood. Oh and Agent Sands from "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" was the best thing about that movie... He stole the show away from Antonio Banderas in that one..

Nothing compares to "21 Jump Street".

That's more of a cameo. In fact it is just a cameo.
Jul 1 - 12:47 AM
Might be talking about the actual show from the 80's.
Jul 1 - 05:58 AM
21 Jump Street (tv show) was my first encounter with Johnny Depp. Loved the show.
Jul 5 - 02:16 PM
Johnny Depp has shown us he can do really any role. But the most impressive one in my opinion is him in the Pirates of the Caribbean Series
Jun 28 - 02:25 PM
My favorite Johnny Depp performances.. I suppose What's Eating Gilbert Grape.. but basically, he's nothing more than a shell of his former self. He's caught up in the Johnny Depp hype..
Jun 27 - 12:17 PM
a shell of his former self? how? he is still as he was before nothing changed.

Whats Eating Gilbert Grape
Curse of the Black Pearl
I thought those were his best roles and The Lone Ranger could be one of his next ones. We'll just have to see.
Jun 26 - 02:38 PM
You forgot to mention Rango. Johnny Depp was in that one.
Jun 25 - 10:47 AM
Depp is brilliant in this movie, will go down as his all time best.
Jun 23 - 03:09 PM
Donnie Brasco, 2nd best mob movie ever
What's eating Gilbert Grape

1) That was a very good movie. I was surprised. I usually don't watch movies like that, but I was glad that I did. 2) Classic. That character will stand the test of time no doubt about it. 3) Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. DAMN! That was a great movie. LOL @ bat country. Hell Benicio Del Toro did an awesome job in that as well. Now my list, a continuation of yours. 4) Ichabod Crane (Sleepy Hollow) 5) Dean Corso (9th Gate) 6) Mort Rainey (Secret Window) I have those on dvd so it was easy to put that as part of my list. 7) From Hell 8) Donnie Brasco 9) Public Enemies. I had to look up all the movies he was in, I forgot he was in those last three there. I saw them in the theater and many times on tv/dvd.
