While visiting his therapist (George Wendt), stand-up comedian Craig Shoemaker tells him that his earthy, multi-character act is no performance; it is his life. Thus begins a series of vignettes, a few of which are dramatic, illustrating his point. Much of the film takes place in a Tempe, Arizona comedy club where Shoemaker is performing.
