Movie Info

The "official" running time of Douglas Fairbanks Sr.'s The Matrimaniac was 53 minutes. All current prints run 48 minutes, meaning that, if anything, the picture is even more fast and frantic than it was originally. Slated for an arranged marriage, Marna (Constance Talmadge) decides to elope with Jimmy (Fairbanks). Anticipating Smokey and the Bandit by sixty years, Marna's father and fiancee chase after the fugitive couple, succeeding in separating the two. Ever the Sir Galahad, Jimmy races against time to save his girl from becoming a reluctant bride. A wild and woolly car-and-train pursuit is climaxed by a marvelous scene in which the jaunty and the sequestered heroine are married via "remote control" -- a sequence far better seen than described.more

Audience Reviews for The Matrimaniac

Although I love Fairbanks, and he has a good amount of cool stunts in this movie, the story is so predictable and cliched and ridiculous that I almost wanted to hate it. But it kept drawing me back to liking it with the way it handles its ridiculousness and with Fairbanks being the cute and daring fiance. Overall it's pretty good, but it could be better.
