The Pit/Hellgate (1981)

Groundhog Day (1993). Could be Murray's best role. The material is almost 100% successful. Very clever stuff even when you're nearly seeing the same stuff over and over again, it's different just enough to make you laugh uncontrollably. The TV show Xena borrowed this idea and made my favorite episode of that show. They went a little beyond what Murray's character does, including the killing of several main characters, only to have them return the next morning, of course. Both really work well and never get old. The film has a great heart too and Murray is the best thing about it. 8/10 Drive-in Classics Double Feature: The Pit (1981)/Hellgate (1989). I got this one from deepdiscount.com's Anchor Bay sale. Originally it was $6 but I bought 2 more (Hellraiser 1 and 2) and got this set free. Four movies for $16 isn't bad. Both films in this cleverly titled set are rediculous and stupid. I've never seen The Pit, but I'm now a fan. What a crazy film! A little kid talks to his teddy bear (which talks back!) and gets advice on what to do with the kooky new pit he found in the woods. Every time he throws something in it there is much by way of tearing sounds heard. Huummm, what to do when the town bully picks on him? Show him the pit, right!! :D What's in the pit? Well, one funny scene has the kid contantly visiting the butcher to buy cheapy meat cuts for whatever is in there. Now, unfortunately this ain't Delicatessen with a pit included, but it's still kind of fun in a bad 1980s movie kind of way. I'll be watching this again in the future. I looove that babysitter! I never got one like that. Now, Hellgate I remember seeing years ago on late night cable and watching simply because of the nudity. It's no wonder, that howtie in there gave me a boner just as it did before. It still works!!! *jumps up and down* When she's ascending the stairs in those loose fitting cotton undies my eyes are all over the place. This movie works as a boner service and as a laugh-at-it/DIY MST3K episode as well. There's some serious comedy here. I had a ball and I watched it alone. It just begs for a group of funny friends. But if you have no friends you can settle for a boner instead. Worth the money? Yep, and then some! A great time. Also check out reviews at amazon.com and other places on the net about these films. Funny to read about people complaining that one of or both of these films are bad. What idiots! Anyway, there are several more of these double sets available and I'm thinking of getting them before the sale ends later today. 10/10
