Guess the tomatometer

Given that the film's director co-wrote Skinwalkers and The Negotiator, and the movie's producers are Michael Bay and the guy who gave Insidious, Sinister, Paranormal Activity, Dark Skies, The Lords of Salem, and The Bay budgets, I'm gonna say 51%.

"Although it relies more heavily on shocking death scenes rather than suspense and atmosphere, The Purge at least gives us a fair amount of tension along with memorable performances from Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey."

I just saw this movie at a 9am RPX showing and it makes me wonder if any of the reviewers saw the same film or if they chose to just review the trailer. This is a great, highly entertaining, well acted, well directed, well shot adult thriller. The preview only tells you the premise, I know that's something we are no longer used to but it works so well here. There is not one bad performance, Lena Heady in particular is excellent and should seriously receive awards consideration. There is not one boring moment in this film, there is only about 15 or 20 minutes where there is anything remotely conventional about the film and the conventions it does use it uses very effectively. It does not concentrate on violence, the first forty five minutes to an hour of this film are simply moments of building tension as we realize how desperate the situation is. There is so much more to this movie than they show in the preview. I implore you to ignore the critics and the people saying it sucked just because its cool right now not to like things. This movie is excellent.

The most insulting thing about this movie is the suggestion that law enforcement and emergency services would just take the night off, when there's no law stopping them from operating. What, once their legal obligation to help people is lifted, there's no moral obligation? Hell, if even one police force decided to operate during purge night, really putting their lives on the line for what they believed in, I'd watch THAT movie.

I could not suspend my disbelief... cops these days don't even want to put their lives on the line to get muggers. They'd rather write tickets and harass/arrest black people for minor offenses.

That's a vicious stereotype. There are most certainly good cops out there. I'm not saying that there aren't any bad cops because there definitely are, but it's just kind of ignorant to say that all cops are bad.

Well, the score seems to fluctuate right now. It was at 60%, then went down to 50% and then to 46%. In a surprising turn around, it sky rocketed from 46% to 61%! So, the score is kind of hard to tell :) I bet somewhere in the 60% range.

65-70% I think this movie looks awesome, from the very first preview I was hooked and my interest has not subsided in the least. Ethan Hawke just keeps getting better, say what you want, but Sinister was awesome, Insidious was awesome and the first 3 paranormal activity movies were very strong

About 61 to 69%. Based on the creators of Insidious and Paranormal Activity but its also produced by Michael Bay and an unknown film director, so it has a 50/50 chance of being successful.

BTW, before I saw the trailer, I had no idea Michael Bay was involved with it. This could possibly the most entertaining Platinum Dunes movie of the bunch critics-wise.

40-70%. The concept sounds ridiculous but it looks interesting, even though it's produced by Michael Bay. It gets a bit typical because the film is about Ethan Hawke and his family.
