Seriously, this is the basic conceit of classic Star Trek's "Return of the Archons" and its "festival." The rest of the story obviously went pretty differently (all the "of the body" brainwashing and such), but I still imagine that what's needed is for Kirk and Spock to show up and talk whatever supercomputer is running the show into throwing a rod.

You got it all wrong. This movie is exactly the same as 300. Same concept and everything. How can you even say Star Trek? Ethan Hawke even yelled "THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAAAA" at the beginning of the movie.
