PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE gave me nowhere near as many belly laughs. Tommy Wiseau is a bit like Shatner or Schwarzenegger before they became self-aware.
But this wasn't a comedy, they were trying to be serious when they made this movie, they wanted to judge the politics of sexual tension in a world of madness... which they failed to do so.

ExactlyWhat he's saying here is that it's funny because it takes itself so deathly seriously yet it is so crap
Jul 31 - 11:02 AM
then why did he give it a good review?
Jul 31 - 07:23 PM
He gave it a good review because he had a good time watching it, he knows it's terrible. Hell, I'd give it a good review because it was one of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had while watching a movie.

Campbell T. it seems we are cut from the same cloth. Despite the fact this movie was unintentionally (I'll re-write that in capitals so people understand the obvious, unarguable logic - UNINTENTIONALLY) hilarious, it was supposed to be a dark, biting deconstruction of the difficulty of relationships. Ergo - it obviously failed to do what it set out to do, and therefore, belly laughs AT (that's right, not with but AT) the movie or not, it is not a good film in that it failed its sole objective. I laughed loud and hard at this, yet I give it a 1/5 as it's obviously one of the worst movies ever. You simply cannot pass this film as a critic if you want to be taken seriously...

Well, the job of a film critic is to recommend movies to the public. If a movie is bad but extremely fun to watch, I think it deserves a positive review. I gave it a 50 though, because I was stuck in the middle of technical quality and entertainment value.

I agree with Brantastic here, if the movie is enjoyable to watch, regardless of it's intentions, I think It's reasonable to give it a good review.
That said, I'd rate it around a 70 because the sex scenes kinda drag on.

haha, what a story, Luke Y. Thompson

Shatner or Schwartzenegger? Jesus. You can't and should not compare those icons to this freak of nature.

Schwarzenegger has always been pretty shrewd and aware of what his appeal is at every point in his career. Even going back to Pumping Iron.

This movie is a guilty pleasure, I enjoyed laughing at the scenes that were supposed to be serious. It's like Eragon or The Last Airbender, the unintentional humour just piles up.
