Comic-Con 2006: Frank Miller on "Will Eisner's The Spirit"
Will Eisner is a legend in the comic book world and his seminal work, "The Spirit," is getting the movie treatment by a man no less of a comic book legend himself: Frank Miller who will both write and direct. The character The Spirit is a masked crime fighter who is unlike Batman. He has no special powers, often using wit instead force to subdue his opponents. He is also a notorious ladies man. Villainesses would throw themselves at him, but of course, his true love will always be Ellen Dolan.

Frank Miller holding many details about "The Spirit" close to his chest.
Here are a couple of details revealed at "The Spirit" panel:
The full title of the movie is actually "Will Eisner's The Spirit." The movie, unlike the black-and-white comic book, will have color. How much has yet to be decided or is not revealed. Frank Miller will probably shoot the movie "Sin City"-style, using color as needed.
The movie will be a period piece with its fashion modeling "The Untouchables." It will be a serious, not tongue-in-cheek like the source. Nothing has been revealed about the plot, since Miller is still working on the script. He did say he will try to fit as many femme fatales as possible in the movie. However, the controversial (some would say racist) character Ebony White will be gone in the movie.
Frank Miller's own graphic novels are also being adapted into movies: other chapters of "Sin City" and "300."

Gerard Butler and David Wenham thankful for not having to wear codpieces to the "300" roundtable.
