A pair of truckers get in over their heads after they involve themselves in a bitter battle between enraged dairymen and the avaricious dairy trust that is cheating them. Eddie Kennedy (James Cagney) and Buck Willetts (Alan Jenkins) get into trouble while on a milkrun from St. Louis to Chicago. Pugnacious Eddie's troubles begin after he is jailed for fighting some dairymen. One fateful night, he escapes to go see his girlfriend Ann Reid (Patricia Ellis). While Eddie is gone, a trucker for the trust kills a dairy farmer and leaves Eddie to shoulder the blame.
