It's wildly ambitious, often extremely good, occasionally maddening, and always stimulating.

Cousins's insanely repetitive delivery of every sentence sadly renders the documentary unwatchable - or at least unlistenable. Cousins has the annoying habit of ending every phrase like a question. Torturous.

Audience Reviews for The Story Of Film: An Odyssey

Mark Cousins knows a lot about Cinema and did an impressive research job here, but unfortunately his voice inflection makes it torturous to listen for 15 hours, while his love for hyperboles weakens the material and his inferences seem usually arbitrary and absurd.

Enough has been written about this ambitious project. I have two principal criticisms: Mark Cousins' irritating penchant for bringing his liberal politics into his analysis of cinematic works and the anticlimactic ending (last episode detailing cinema of recent years).
