I think you have to just take the series for what it is. Ridiculous and fun teen angst. As a woman who remembers falling in love for the first time and thinking it was my whole world, nostalgia takes over and I just enjoy the ride. It's not Shakespeare or Stoker, but it gives us fantasy and hope and a twist on the usual Vampire story. I mean is that not why we go to the movies to get away from our boring normal lives? Not every movie has to be an Oscar contender. As far as the acting, I think the cast does a pretty good job, I mean come on, you give Meryl Streep or Marlon Brando those lines and see what they can do...not much better I surmise.
