Harrelson deserves a pat on the back for filling out his character. Never allowed to forget the greatness of his politician father, he's a deeply self-loathing man whose acerbic front prevents him forming real relationships.
A film you can’t walk out on.
The Walker is at its best observing surfaces.
Wittily entertaining stuff, with the cast clearly relishing their snarky dialogue. Plus, the backdrop of political double dealing, with references to Whitewater and other D.C. shenanigans, adds an extra element of interest.
Written and directed with elegant finesse by Paul Schrader, the film is a character study wrapped in a story of political and corporate misconduct.
A charismatic and charming film with lots of delightful turns of phrase but it also ends up feeling as frivolous and fleeting as its main protagonist.
All the emotional fuss dissipates in a small payoff when a big one was promised.
Certainly well made, a reminder that Schrader is a writer and director of some note.
Though hardly a revelatory journey, it's a stroll that offers some modest pleasures along the way.
A morally charged drama about the nasty games played by the rich and the powerful in Washington, D.C.
There is good writing here, and Thomas is very good as always, but the movie works because of Harrelson's performance.

A return to form and another entry in Schrader's 'God's Lonely Man' saga, this murder mystery is hard not to be intrigued by. Harrelson's brilliant performance is enough to sell it alone.
In this, the third in his 'lonely man' trilogy, [writer/director Paul] Schrader's reach exceeds his grasp, but his intentions are interesting, and the artifice he creates contributes to the otherworldliness of his Washington.

Paul Schrader directs The Walker, and the writer has a way with understatement. Like his 1992 gem Light Sleeper, this movie draws you in with its reserve.
Like Richard Gere in [American Gigolo], Harrelson's Carter Page is as superficial as he is entertaining - at least, until he gets mixed up in a murder case.
