Critic Reviews for The Witch Who Came from the Sea
Straddles an exploitation line in telling a simple tale with an unexpected degree of pretense and, if only occasionally, artistry.
Audience Reviews for The Witch Who Came from the Sea
This movie sorta surprised me, as I went into it expecting a straight up witch to be killing people, but as it turns out there's just a fairly normal slasher type story to be found here.
That said, I enjoyed it pretty well as this unbalanced gal starts hacking up her various lovers and other men in the nearby sleep seaside town.
Fun stuff, give it a look.
I loved the dreamy nature of the story and despite being extremely cheap, they did a lot of great stuff with it, I think. The lead actress gave a fascinating, although strange, performance, and I think too many people jump on it as "bad" when honestly, the bitch is just CRAZY. Everyone else is a little nuts, too, I think, and it makes the film's overall sense of logic kinda work. It's not something conventional or "real." It's a surrealistic piece of work. But hell, what do I know? :P
A strange movie. Because of the subject matter, I didn't know what to expect, but it was mesmerizing, almost hypnotic in the way it was told. Incidentally, this was the third movie I've seen in a week that features castration (after Holy Mountain and Hostel 2). Yeah... not something I'm proud of.
