I was glad to learn that this was from a review done in 1939. He was entitled to his opinion. I've always heard that this movie was not very successful in its first run and took many years to earn back the money invested in it.

Yes he is. He was killed in action in WWII at age 37, so he's been dead for nearly 70 years. This isn't a new review from somebody trolling to get noticed. He was reviewing it at the time, and he don't like it. So what? No movie is perfect.
