At least his (Castle's) old films could be viewed as pure, innocent camp. Thir13en Ghosts can hardly be viewed at all.

Arthur Kriticos (Tony Shalhoub) is a financially strapped widower struggling to raise two children, Kathy (Shannon Elizabeth) and Bobby (Alec Roberts), after losing his wife in a house fire. A stroke of apparent luck arrives when Arthur learns he has inherited a mansion from his mysterious Uncle Cyrus (F. Murray Abraham). Ecstatic, Arthur whisks the kids and nanny, Maggie (Rah Digga), off to their new home, a bizarre glass and steel structure with strange Latin inscriptions carved on the walls. The family is thrilled, until a psychic and former employee of Cyrus's, Rafkin (Matthew Lillard), reveals that Arthur's departed uncle was a power hungry ghost collector who captured twelve spirits in the house. Arthur is skeptical. But when his children disappear, and Rafkin gives him a pair of special glasses that allow him to view the house's gruesome inhabitants, he believes. In Beck's special effects-laden gore-fest, the two men race against time to find the children as the house's strange internal mechanism begins sealing off the exits and freeing the angry ghosts. Reviews for Thirteen Ghosts
By any objective accounting, Thirteen Ghosts is exactly a baker's dozen too many -- this is a zero of a film.
Substitutes the original's goofy camp for an orgy of gore, noise and mindless mayhem.
You don’t like to see someone like F. Murray Abraham awkwardly hamming his way through a role. It’s actually pretty sad.
Like that inscrutable pseudo-word 'Thir13en,' this film is a messy jumble.
The film's biggest letdown is the almost complete absence of real scares.
The drop-dead fact is, this ornate but eerily unspooky production is designed by Hollywood vampires and powered by demographics.
What’s worse than being trapped in a house with an angry ghost? Trapped in a house with 13 of them. But the real shocker here is that 13 Ghosts is surprisingly decent.
You don't see many horror films where the day is saved by someone's DJ-ish expertise on a sound-mixing board.
By the end of 13 Ghosts, I was half-nauseous and I had a headache. If that's your idea of a recommendation, be my guest.
It wounds William Castle's inspired body of work to foist remakes of this substandard caliber on the man's name.
