Three Word Brand (1921)
William S. Hart stars in a double role in this routine western adventure. Three World Brand and his twin brother were separated at birth. The other twin had gone on to become governor of the state of Utah. When villains try to corner the water rights in the valley, the governor sets out to investigate things for himself. Meanwhile, Brand's partner is falsely accused of murder and faces education. Brand takes his long-lost brother's place and rides to the state capital to sign water-conservation legislation and a pardon for his partner. The film is plagued by historical inaccuracy, like the boy's father having a Winchester repeating rifle the year it was invented in 1865. It is unlikely a poor emigrant could even afford the new rifle, especially so soon after the invention of the firearm. Fans of William S.
