Reviews for Timecop
Is it even praise to call a film ‘one of Van Damme’s better efforts’? Try calling your wife’s meatloaf ‘the least nauseating thing I’ve even all week’ and see what she thinks.
Maybe it's the formula, maybe it's all that time travel, but you just can't help thinking you've seen it all before.
In terms of plot and direction, there are loopholes galore and too much in-your-face audience-pummeling for my taste.
Those who aren't easily insulted with cliches and disregard for scientific facts might still enjoy it.
Time paradoxes are supposed to be mind-boggling; Timecop has reduced them to a level somewhere between confusing and dumb.
Some impressive Terminator-type special effects, various plot holes, kung-fu derring-do and action as well as some wooden acting by the muscles from Brussels make for Saturday matinee entertainment, but little else.
In spite of its glitches, Timecop is lots of fun, a blast from the past.
Being a time-travel epic, plot holes abound here, but it's Van Damme's cute little attempt at being the family man that ruins that oh-so-necessary willing suspension of disbelief.
Timecop, a low-rent Terminator, is the kind of movie that is best not thought about at all, for that way madness lies.
