Dunne's version is played for horrific effect, a two-hour and twenty minute version which emphasizes the violence (read: BLOOD! and GUTS!) and themes of revenge. Set in early Rome, it is the saga of a noble man cruelly betrayed and brutally persecuted--ultimately driven to madness by the deceit of the Roman court. A timeless tale and a brutal and graphic reminder that violence and revenge only begets MORE violence and revenge. A nice comparison piece for Julie Taymor's lavish 1999 film version TITUS. [More]
