Critic Review - San Jose Mercury News

After a rousing setup, this visually striking remake falls back much too heavily on its action roots, with one chase scene after another and another. After a while, it's tedious.

Decent review, he didn't hate it. Hopefully this movie will land somewhere in the 50s.

It's always funny to hear about someone list action as a critique in an action movie no matter how justified they are.

He's not saying there shouldn't be any action, just that there should be a balance between action and story, whithout having the former overwhelming the latter. Also, how you execute the action is important. Terminator was basically a two hour long chase movie and yet the story - while simple - was so effectively told and the pacing so tight that it never felt boring or repetetive. I'm not sure if that's the case here.

Wow remaking a Arnold film that did not need to be remade. Brilliant Hollywood. How about you make a movie that is original and don't let those butcher producers touch the film itself.

Ppl talk like the 80s version was a classic. Sorry, but it really is not. Although I do love verhoeven as a director. Black book is an amazing film! Like to see him come back to America!

While I'm not sure whether or not you could call it a classic, the original was a very entertaining film with a decent amount of twists and foor for the thought added to the action. It was also a film where for once Arnold managed to come off as someone vunerable.

Well, that's Conan and Total Recall. I guess Predator or The Running Man will be next. The only Schwarzenneger film that should ever be remade is Hercules In New York. With Kevin Sorbo.
