RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Total Recall, Pitch Perfect, and Lots More

Summary

With Christmas just a week away, it's not surprising that so many films found their way into home video release this week. As such, there's a pretty wide variety available, ranging from sci-fi blockbusters to indie comedies, from dramas to action thrillers, and even a little something for the kids. On top of that, we've got a pretty solid number of Certified Fresh films in the mix, so click through for our longer-than-usual list! Back to Article

wow it's rare to see this many dvds/blu ray being released in the same week!! I'll be picking up Total Recall, Pitch Perfect, Trouble with the Curve, Arbitrage, and Killer Joe. The rest of the films look meh. Recall will be nowhere as good as the original, but I'm a sucker for these kind of films. Surprisingly, Pitch Perfect got great reviews and I loved the trailer. Since I'm a big baseball and Eastwood fan, I gotta get Trouble. And finally, I gotta get my 2012 award collections ready with Arbitrage and Killer Joe.

Definitely picking up "Killer Joe" and "Sleepwalk with Me," the latter being one of the best comedies of the year (second to "Seven Psychopaths). Will rent "Pitch Perfect," maybe rent "Trouble With the Curve," though I heard it has more in common with "The Blind Side" (yuck) than "Moneyball." And PASS, PASS, PASS on the godawfulness that is "Total Recall." Nothing but two hours of chase scenes and wooden acting. I don't know how many times I had to rewatch the original to get the sour taste out of my mouth.

I guess with that rating I'll give Pitch Perfect a try, though I'm not in a big rush to see it. "Total Recall" would probably entertain me (most movies that people consider to be "awful" I consider to be simply "meh"), but once again not in a big hurry. "Premium Rush" I'm on the fence about, probably use my next free Redbox promo code on it.

It was simple 'meh'. Not so bad in the beginning, but halfway through it goes into 'meh' mode and never looks back.

If you're picking up Killer Joe (a really good film, by the way), RT is failing to mention that the original NC-17 cut of the film is only available on the Blu-Ray (and may on-demand, though I don't know for sure) and that the DVD is a censored version, so keep that in mind.

Nice call, I never made that connection before. Two gorgeous actresses brought low by their choice in men. I may have to give Killer Joe a shot too.

Looking at Killer Joe, I wonder why Sorcerer isn't on Blu-ray yet.

The Words will be viewed, I'll try not to go in hating it. Killer Joe I've heard is a dark dreary bleack kick ass movie. Most things claimed to be dark a dreary usually aren't though or I'm just numb to all of it, DAMN YOU AMERICAN PSYCHO DIRECTORS CUT!

Pitch Perfect looks life Fun. I have not watched Glee for 3 years so it won't be over bearing.

watched Pitch Perfect again online earlier, not worth the purchase to keep at home forever
I have to watch Liberal Arts online first before buying it
it pays to watch some of these films somewhere else before blowing your hard earned money on the DVDs or Blu-Rays
there's a lot of movies I regret buying before watching them elsewhere

"Arbitage" and "Killer Joe" are the must-sees. The rest is debris of the cinema colonic.

Might check out Total Recall, I'll definitely watch Premium Rush though. JGL is probably my favorite actor as of now.

There are so many releases during the holiday break, but both Resident Evil Evil: Retribution and Premium Rush is a buy for me.

The rest of the list:
Pass = Total Recall (or Total Redud).
Rent = Pitch Perfect (Haven't seen the movie yet)
Pass = Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days
Rent = Killer Joe (an NC-17 rating? Count me in.)
Rent = Trouble with the Curve
Pass = The Words
Monsters Inc. probably a buy in 3-D, but not in theaters this week.
Rent = Arbitrage
