Critic Review - TIME Magazine

For good or ill, Bay is the soul of a new machine, the poet of post-human cinema, the CEO of Hollywood's military-entertainment complex.

Dude, you are hilarious. "Well, I've gotta go. I've got a government job to abuse, and a lonely wife to fuck....Oh sorry. Make love to."

How can you be a film critic, at a magazine as prestigious as Time, and not arbitrarily, like a good critic should, call it ill. Youâ??re asking rhetoric and not recognizing it.

I agree, Logan. I'm seeing too many review summaries that tip-toe around criticizing this movie. They're straddling a fence, afraid to speak harshly of it, practically giving him a full pass. I wonder how much advertising revenue they get from the Paramount and the Transformers franchise. They're reviewing it with a mere shrug.

Let me say what Corporate Corliss is too gun-shy to say. yes, Bay and his ilk are like the cinematic version of the military industrial complex. There's hundreds of billions in the American budget for them, but there's only cuts to be made to the ever-crumbling middle class -- no money for schools, colleges, paving of roads, etc. So the middle class gets more taxes, the rich get none, all in order to fund the bloated salaries and pensions of politicians and corporate executives.

I think that's what Corliss wanted to say. And, also, it gets a Tomato Splat, not a Fresh.

Yeah. You could also say the same thing about Spielberg. What good is a name if it's got a (TM) copyright at the end of it by all these corporations. He's a talented director who needs to pick and choose what he really wants to produce. And it's a critic's responsibility to not be worldy with the outer-aspects of the film, but with the inner aspects. Corliss is rotten.

Actually, if you can do the math, there are 64% of these critics who do not like the movie, go cheer them on for not liking the movie. We should praise this guy for being honest and not afraid to say what he likes regardless of all this heat and hater fan boys. I don't know about you, but people like leaders, not followers. And to your political stuffing, that's America, cuts in military spending will never happen because they are too paranoid over safety. You don't like it, then don't live in the US (thank God I don't). And you should thank Michael Bay and Steven for making these movies if your talking about economy, middle class opportunities, and Job creation (which US really needs right now), because if he and others like him didn't make movies, then you can add more to that 9% plus unemployment rate of yours. I hate corporate tax deductions too, which most people should thank Obama for not permanently extending the tax cuts for the wealthy, because you know if that was McCain, indefinite cuts would be law. That's politics which should be irrelevant here, lol, but none the less, good conversation Stepping. Something we can agree on, no? Oh I got another where we can come to a consensus on; X-Men: First Class was a good movie and the best super hero movie this year??? It was mine anyways.

Major I couldn't agree with you more. I do love how all these people who despise this movie tend to hang out in these forums. Makes me feel better about my life.

Just because you don't like the film doesn't mean everyone should (though I admit I didn't like it much either). The fact that the reviewers show a 32% disparity between their score and the audiences implies that far too many reviewers plainly got it wrong. Good to see a reviewer that doesn't just follow the populist herd and actually gives a positive opinion in the way 67% of the viewing audience did.

So its ok to complain about the fanboys that bash the negative reviews.....yet theres a few of you that seem to comment on every positive review. Does it matter to you people that much?

Jeez, get off Bay's dick. Wheres the talent in this movie? You get a director with the mind of a 12 year old who replicates an idea from a Japanese cartoon, add some top notch CGI, and the people go ape shit.

Calling Michael Bay a poet is like calling Rebecca Black a modern John Keats. How dare you, Mr. Corliss -- how dare you.

I get what you are saying. I really do. The movie had some fun stuff going on: we all love the bumblebee & when doesn't John Malkovich rock, right?

Whatevs. At the end of the day, it was an hour too long which made it ultimately unbearable.

So they made a Transformers movie and gave them all minor roles? Brilliant. Yeah I was very interested in how Sam was going to save yet another girlfriend. I desired so badly for Sam to matter and for him to feel important. Sam is still alive and he has a new girlfriend. Wow, great story. Loved it.

Oh, what were those big robots doing in the background?

I thought the review was ok. I agreed and disagreed with parts of it. Its kinda stupid that people get all pissed about this stuff. At some point they don't even give a shit about the review. At some point, they just start critiquing each other.

Mr. Corliss takes his movie-reviewing seriously. I can tell because it appears he was able to stomach the entire thing without walking out like I (and a couple of others) did! Michael Bay isn't the sould of a new machine . . . this movie proves he HAS no soul! Surely someone on the staff had the balls to say The Emperor Has No Clothes! This is a new low for action moviemaking!

Whatsw wrong with you people/ You are suppost to have fun at movies. I hate the people that get preachy oh this isn't art. Michel Angelo is art these are entertainment. Plus if Bay sucked as bad as you idiot critics then his movies wouldn't be grossing a billion dollars.
Transformers 3 kicked ass and it's great to see a Hollywood director that remembers he is an American and proud of it.
Fuck what the critics like Shakespear in love kind of shit

That's the whole point this movie isn't even fun.I watched it for free and i couldn't seat through the whole damn thing. It's a brainless, pointless piece of crap,a pure abomination.it's for 10 year old boys or people who think like one..I don't know you but you sound like one when you say this is a good movie and Bay is a good director because it made billions of dollars..It's like saying Lynch(random name) isn't a good director because his movies don't..It just shows how fuckedup this world is and how people define success not for what they produced but for how much money they make.Bay has to take lessons from Cameron and Nolan, two directors that respect the viewers and themselves and can combine big earnings with great action movies but maybe he is to busy(as the great Bill Hicks would said)to suck satan's cock!

i honestly love this movie and yeah some you guys bitch and complain that the movie is terrible and that you guys didn't want to see the movie. Thats why i ask this question, Why did you guys see the movie, and if you didn't why are you saying it is terrible if you haven't given it a chance? if you don't like the movie fine, it's America your are entitled to an opinion, but don't bitch if you haven't seen it and if you want to say it's bad, write a review damn it. Also be ready to back your opinion i love this movie because it is highly entertaining, great special effects, great and fun story, and alot of emotion flying around. sorry for the very long run on sentences and any grammar problems.
