Critic Review - The Atlantic

Despite its manifest improvements, there is something so sour and unpleasant about the new film that it left me almost nostalgic for the innocent idiocies of its predecessor.

That is quite a sublime review. I cannot disagree with its observations of grotesque angry adolescent rampage, merciless cold blooded revenge driven heroism or its inept, superficial attempt to portray a (originally likable) character in a new relationship with everything at stake and yes, sartre is, in all of this is a relevant reference in the context that: a) this film is utterly godless and b) bays 'other' is Optimus prime. (what will we make of bay in years to come!?) But goddamn! it exists! And for that, as a true fan boy, I am grateful.

'dark of the moon' .. where to begin .. while it lacks the charm of the original, it certainly lacks the stupidity of the second .. there's just something about watching decepticons vaporize humans in the streets of chicago that is hugely enjoyable, if only in the guiltiest sense of pleasure .. but finally, Michael Bay lets the inhumanity of the machines shine, everything revolving around the decepticon's ruthless crusade to take control of earth .. this is a hollywood action movie in the strictest essence of the type, a thrilling adventure with truly epic action sequences .. many complain about how shallow the transformers series is, however i think there's more here than just eye candy .. it is a window into the psyche of Michael Bay, although disturbing to some, i found picking apart the freudian imagery throughout the film entertaining to say the least .. call it childish, overtly dystopian, or just plain stupid, but sometimes it's best to just settle in for the ride .. 'dark of the moon' is a hyper meditation on respect for sentient life, albeit bluntly described, it's a metaphor for how humans have little respect for other life on planet earth, utilizing weaker species at will for resources even at their expense .. that said, even these conclusions are a reach because everything subtle here is hiding in the shadow of some of the most epic actions sequences ever devised .. his questionable ethics and morals aside, Bay has become the master of spectacle and his visuals are unsurpassed in their complexity and pure visceral impact ..

Yeah, I definitely agree with that. Part 1 was pimp but the sequels were pretty lame. I don't think he should produce movies either. Dark of The Moon looks like a masterpiece compared to his horror remakes.

'This is, after all, the man who fired previous franchise eye candy Megan Fox for being insufficiently sexy, which is a bit like firing water for being insufficiently wet.'

C'mon guys, this movie seriously sucked. It kept losing my interest and it took me 6 times to finally finish watching it. I bought it then took it right down to a local video store (who was offering 3.00) and sold it.

Can any of you Transformers fans actually counter his arguments? Other than "don't pay attention, just enjoy it."
