Want more Transformers? According to Slashfilm, DreamWorks is making sure you get your wish -- and sooner rather than later.

The site, picking up on an item in the Los Angeles Times, reports that Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay have apparently signed on to make the sequel, which is being targeted for a summer 2009 release. As Slashfilm points out, this report at least mildly contradicts last week's news that studio delays were causing Bay to consider "jumping ship" from Transformers 2 in favor of something that stands a realistic chance of wrapping before the strike.

According to Slashfilm's best guess, a Transformers sequel would need to begin production by next fall in order to make it to screens by the summer of 2009.

yep, the first one did suck...and the plot was so bad it only made a few hundred million. god, can hollywood PLEASE stop releasing these blockbuster movies that entertain millions of people and provide great entertainment?!?! d3mn you michael bay and your cool special effects and kick3ss action. urgh...i'm so sick of griping about this awesome movie...good god...(think this post is stupid? read the ones above it)

I'm still not up with exactly what the deal with the looming "strike" is, other than I know it's next summer, and apparantly no movies will ever get made again, ever, and anything that hasn't wrapped by then is cancelled forever. (Yes I'm try to make the point that I haven't been able to find any REAL referance matrial other than vague refrences here on RT in refrences to whether or not certain movies will be wrapped by then).

If someone could point me to some decent articles that explain the whole thing, I'd appriciate it.

Also, looking forward to Transformers 2, thoroughly enjoyed the first one. And Witherwings, descrating one of his own masterpieces with Walkie-Talkies was a lot worse for the Spielburg name than any Michael Bay directed Transformers movie will ever be, so I wouldn't sweat it too hard.

I would like to see Michael Bay step down. I thought he's been saying he wouldn't make a sequel. Not that I hated Transformers, but I'd be more excited about a sequel by a different director.

Have any of you complainers ever made a movie? Or acted at all in your life time? Give me a break. Can you imagine if there were only robots? How boring would that movie be? You go into the movie, already seeing the title, how dumb can you be to not expect many humans. "Their war, our world".. If you don't like a movie don't see it, don't complain about it. Good grief.

I'm going to say that Michael Bay wasn't the best director before "Transformers". "Armageddon" could've been a good summer blockbuster with entertainment galore, but throw in a nauseating romance (Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler were nominated for Razzies) and stupidity for the sake of stupidity, and you've shot yourself in the foot. Now, throw in an even more nauesating romance (Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett, and Kate Beckinsale) as a backdrop to a serious tragic event, and you've got "Pearl Harbor". Bay definitely got back to simple and clean fun with "Transformers" - an easier-to-swallow love story (Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox kick Affleck/Tyler's asses), plenty of humor, and a whallop of a battle at the last half of the film. And no sap anywhere. I really don't see why it's an awful film. Even some of Bay's haters praised him (look for Brian Ordrof's review). Steven Spielberg and his people (Industrial Light & Magic) pretty muched save Bay from crashing.

Meanwhile, you guys are seeing stuff like "Live Free or Die Hard", which pretty much wasn't that great as you said (Timothy Olyphant playing a bland villain, Mary Elizabeth Winstead once again playing bitter and angry, and too much talkiness that slowed the movie down). Same with "Hairspray" (Brittany Snow's head-bashing performance summed up the whole film, though I wish the best for Nikki Blonsky's career), "Blades of Glory" (Jon Heder and Jenna Fischer slowed the movie down), "Pirates of the Carribean" (Keira Knightly: not the best, or subtle, actress in the world), "Spider-Man 3" (too weepy; good thing Kirsten Dunst's next project is with Brit funnyman Simon Pegg), "Disturbia" (a rather boring film that couldn't mix chuckles and chills), and "Meet the Robinsons" (too much sap brought down the upbeat comedy that could've been an easygoing Disney film). I'm sorry if I diss any of you, but I may have a better taste in films that aren't overtly overrated.

I'm getting a little tired of the Bay hate. He made a popcorn summer movie, and it fulfilled many people's expectations (as evidenced by the repeat viewings).

I believe some of you are so biased against him, he could direct Pulp Fiction and it would be torn to shreds.

The action was put together well sure, but it was still filled with Michael Bay ham-handed touches, like the random sun-shining slow motion shots.

Replace him with someone who can handle human characters with the same emphasis as mayhem.
