WHAT no Shia LaBeouf. Cmon Shia was great in the first one and should have been a defintite for this one, Not impressed Mr Bay not impressed.
Apr 7 - 03:44 PM
who cares if shia is in it or not, in case you didn't notice the transformers were the stars. They just need a new ***** to chase after now

Sigh, this would be the best news ever, I loved the constructicons...but man, I still cannot bring myself to watch Transformers. I loved them as a kid, I remember loving the animated film. I had the toys and was jealous of my best friend who had even more of them. When the first film was being made and people were decrying the character design and the teaser trailer I resisted and said no, this movie is going to be cool. Then I sat down to watch spiderman 3, and saw the transformers trailer. When what looked to be a horrible father son comedy became the freaking transformers movie trailer I was beside myself. I leaned to my friends and said... wow, this really has a chance to suck. As the summer went and the momentum of suck built I really thought that this film had no chance to break 100 million at the box office. I decided to spare myself the suckage. Then it made 300 million dollars and all but 2 of my friends love the film. What the hell happened? How did one of the worst movie trailers ever made become this movie? Is it really any good? Am I an idiot for refusing to see it? Probably, but it boggles the mind that they're making a sequel.
Apr 7 - 04:28 PM
Dude, I understand your situation. I refused to see the movie for different reasons, predominantly because what Michael Bay did in completely missing the point with Pearl Harbor was unforgivable to me. And to be honest, Transformers reeked of Michael Bay: Weak plot, retarded romance, and breathtaking action scenes. I prefer deeper movies, but if you like action flicks, it's as good as any. I say, if you're not sure, give it a try. I didn't really like it, but you might.

-Good Quality has absolutely nothing to do with making a sequel. Transformers made money, and its sequel, if it follows "the formula" will be more likely to make a profit than something with an original idea. They make sequels of crap all the time.
Apr 7 - 04:45 PM
well I meant that it boggles my mind because i never expected the film to crack 100 million.
Apr 7 - 04:51 PM
Devastator fights a giant bikini clad Megan Fox equals highest grossing movie ever!!! On a serious not can't wait to see more robot death and destruction.
Apr 7 - 06:30 PM
well, megan fox better be back!!! She was the only human I wanted
to see in that film and maybe a bit of Shia for the comedic moments ;) But
seriously, let's reign in the praise for this movie franchise. I'll agree it
was a certified fresh movie ....but just barely. It wasn't a great film at
all and I seriously doubt Bay will do any better in the sequel. AND
John Z. Delorean, you are absolutely wrong and not a real Transformers fan
if you hated the 1986 movie!! C'mon how in hell's name could any self
respecting Transformer's fan or kid from the 80's (as i assume you were at
the time) dislike that movie. Hell, it had Orson freakin Wells and Leonard
Nemoy and the real voice of Megatron, Frank Welker, in it!! This was a great
movie for any fan of the show and I don't understand how you didn't like it!
Apr 7 - 10:46 PM
So I'm supposed to like something because of voice actors and because I'm a "fan"? Judd Nelson was HotRod in the movie are you gonna go buy Suddenly Susan on DVD because he was in Transformers the Movie? This was just Hasbro killing off characters so they could push new plastic toys. The movie was just thrown together with no respect for the kids watching/buying the product. Starscream wrecks his leg when Autobot city transforms, seconds later it's healed. Thundercracker at Starscreams coronation even though he had already been turned into Scourge by Unicron? Dirge, Ramjet, Thrust destroyed by Unicron only to appear in Season 3? 4 dinobots most of the movie as Snarl is shown about twice, twitchy animation, plot inconsistencies and overpaid actors reading crap dialogue. I'll pass. I filmed better movies with my toys.
Apr 9 - 06:18 AM
I'd have to watch the film again to check on your facts, but I'll take it for granted that you're right.
Having said that, I am indeed awed--and weirded out-- that a) you noticed those inconsistencies as a child and it ruined the movie for you or b) you have pored over the film and series as an adult and found them.
I can only imagine you were having violent seizures during movies like 'Back to the Future' with REAL plot issues..
Apr 9 - 07:45 AM
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but some of the character breakdowns made me feel uneasy, specifically Theresa. What I mean is, does she "have to" be black? Are they afraid that showing an interracial couple with four kids may hurt the characters and/or the movie? Again though, maybe I'm just reading too much into it.
Apr 7 - 11:15 PM
Why would anyone who loved the show so much as a kid, not see the first Transformers movie?? Ok maybe you are a cheap *** and didn't want to see it in theaters. But to not even rent it? There is sooo many worse movies out there. The trailers rocked and they had to have some human element in the plot, just like the cartoons. Get over it fanboys and stop complaining, it could be worse like Shrek 4 or Saw 10
Apr 8 - 12:20 AM
Transformers 2 has soo much potential, but I cant see them making anything good out of it. The first movie was a disgrace, a robot movie with more time given to a pimply teen trying to get laid than any other plot element, where there is more dialogue about masturbati*n than optimus!
Look the mere fact that legions of people say transformers sucks proves it sucks. Are legions of people out there saying Matrix1, aliens, commando, or terminator 2 sucked? No, thats because they didn't!
Apr 8 - 01:31 AM
I gotta agree with Couch Tomato; How in righteous green F#CK can you NOT like the original? I'll even stomach people pissing on the Bay movie (which I LOVED), but to any bona fide Transformers fan in the 80's, the first movie was a g#ddamn religious experience!
"DARE! Dare to believe you CAN Survive..."
Sh#t, I'm getting nostalgic as I sit here...
Apr 8 - 09:36 AM
Thank you very much for agreeing with me TombstoneLawDog! I still
can't believe that supposed "transformers fan" dislikes the 1986 classic.. I
just can't believe it and i am thankful there are still sme out there who
remember the original classics
Apr 8 - 06:16 PM
Tombstone, the first one was a religious experience in that one had to consciously block out all brain activity to enjoy it. I remember being pumped, man. Even caught a free advance screening and went with another hardcore fan of the '80s series and film. And like dahluzz put it, that opening scene was hott. But it also worried me some. I remember thinking, "ok. that was cool... whatever it was." Couldn't really follow it. Chalked it up to suspense, the technique of showing us something cool and vague while at the same time getting us stoked to see more discernible action later on. No dice on that. Every action scene got progressively more jumbled. Perhaps the story, I thought, would be strong and it would be the sci fi masterpiece it deserved to be. 0 for 2. Well, perhaps we'll get a rampage of nonstop robot action. Nope. Instead a horde of pretty faces engaged in irrelevant, stereotypical human conflicts. Business as usual in a Michael Bay picture. Then there's that damn ending. "Awe, Jazz." But you get the picture.
Was it a total loss? I wouldn't go that far (not unless you twist my arm). Am I pumped for the sequel? Not even close. Somewhat interested, but about as hopeful and enthusiastic as I am for Spider-Man 4.
So yeah, a religious experience it was. I left the theater deleriously clinging to the illusion that I'd had a good time. In denial. Engaged in an epic battle on the ride home, hope versus reason. Sanity taxed. Inner loyalties split. Jaded.

Looking forward to this film, loved the first one, and i love Michael Bay films, do with me what you will, lol

Apr 8 - 10:00 AM
on Apr 07 2008 06:45 AM I have serious concerns about drop-offs in quality which are so dam# frequent in sequels in the fantasy/Sci-fi genre (hell, in ALL genres)
Men in Black 2
Mortal Kombat 2
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 (the old, live-action version)
Matrix 2 (and 3)
Batman 2 (the Tim Burton-directed, Michael Keaton version)
One difference between Transformers 2 and the above mentioned sequels is that, with the exception of Batman 2, all of those movies were filmed as stand alone movies. There was no plan for a sequel till after the original made gobs of money so then a sequel had to be contrived for the purpose of making gobs more money. Personally, I liked Batman 2 as much as the first. I thought Divito completely mastered his performance as the Penguin and Pfeiffer was smokin' hot as Catwoman.
With that said I have high hopes that Transformers 2 will be as good, if not better than the first (the fact that Bay is directing not withstanding) because the first one was clearly directed with an eye towards several more. Furthermore, there is already a rich storyline that exists from the old cartoon series from which Bay and company can draw from in succeeding movies. Granted, this is Bay we are talking about so colossal screw-ups are possible (Pearl Harbor for instance) but I generally like his movies and after all if there is a movie Michael Bay, master of blowing chit up, car chases and all kinds of Bayhem, was born to direct it is TRANSFORMERS because blowing chit up, car chases and all kinds of mayhem is what Transformers is all about anyway.
Warning: Minor Spoilers from IESB.net mixed in below.
About Megan Fox, I have assumed till now that she would be in Transformers 2 but I notice that, according to IESB Sam is now attending Princeton University which is all the way over in New Jersey. That%u2019s an awful long way for a high school, former juvie, girlfriend to follow. However, the list is a casting call not a list of already existing characters so it%u2019s certainly conceivable she is still in but with the Sam being in NJ I have my doubts unless he pays a visit back to LA.
Here%u2019s one final thought. Bay warned everyone there would be lot%u2019s of dis-information spread around the internet about Transformers 2 so I take everything with a large grain of salt.
Apr 8 - 04:36 PM
iakobos, your post brings out the Dr. Jekyll aspect of my perspective on the Transformers franchise. I too think the sequel can be a lot better than the first one, and for the same reasons. To use the SpiderMan example again. It was the same with the sequel to that one. A relatively underwhelming first picture, an explosive sequel. I hope for a great Transformers sequel. But there's a vast difference between hope and expectation. Granted, I'd love to be wrong on this one.
Apr 11 - 11:38 AM
the problem with the first one is the lack of tone of the action... yes it delivered the best effects of 2007, but the action was al over the place.. just bang!bang!bang!... you have to set the tone michael bay!!

Maybe I feel this way cause I'm a lady, but I'd like to see Arcee in this one. She almost made it into the last one. And I'd like to see Soundwave too. I know this isn't the eighties but the other Transformers were made into different vehicles and itmes than they had been before, so if he was included in this film I don't think anyone would be mad if he showed up as something else. I thought that Blackout was Soundwave at the beginning of part one, when he was stealing information from the military. He'd be a good replacement for that other CD MP3 boombox character that got his head chopped off at Hoover dam.

You know i doubt this thread is read anymore but the **** that John Z. D. says is total crap. Yes while the new transformer movie has many flaws to it it will still be a great movie. and they are not killing off characters. If you pay attention to the trailer you will actually see that most of the decepticons are back in this movie. the Constructicons will also be playing an important part in this movies as well. Yes it is true that many of the decepticons did die in the first movie but just like in the show it was bound to happen. You have to face facts good will always conquer over evil. Its just how things work. You say that the directors have no regards toward the children. That is total bull****. While children do sometimes like the roles of the darker characters in movies. they look more towards the good characters. SOOO they are looking in the kids better interest by showing them there is hope in something. ~~~~To everyone else They are adding more characters to the movies it is even rumored that there will be a third movie that will be introduced to the line. As you can see from the superbowl trailer that they put out. the have what appears to be cheetor
