Megan Fox to Star in Hack/Slash?

The rumor that won't die gains new life.

She's already proven she can hold her own against giant robots. For her next trick, will Megan Fox take on undead serial killers?

Actually, the "undead" part of the project in question is fitting, because -- as Cinematical points out -- this is a casting rumor that refuses to die. We're talking about Fox's supposed attachment to Todd Lincoln's adaptation of Hack/Slash, the popular Tim Seeley comic book that's already been turned into a play.

The comic's story revolves around Cassie, a baseball bat-wielding brunette who stalks the country in search of (occasionally undead) serial killers with her hulking, gas mask-wearing companion Vlad. As you might guess, the series benefits from its sense of humor -- Hack/Slash installments have titles such as "Girls Gone Dead" and "Slice Hard," and one story had Cassie and Vlad facing off against Chucky.

Given that Cassie is smokin' hot, has dark hair, and tends not to wear a whole lot, a not-inconsiderable number of folks would very much like to see Fox in the role. Now, the official Hack/Slash MySpace page has picked up the rumor, and Creature Corner is echoing reports of Fox's interest.

Admittedly, we haven't read the comics, but Fox seems to have the requisite borderline-freaky vibe to pull off the character, and her appearance in Transformers has arguably made her enough of a draw to lead a project. Whether she wants to topline something the director has referred to as "the ultimate slasher film" is another question -- one to which we'll presumably learn the answer sooner than later.

if its actually funny...and she's in it, this might be pretty sweet. she's ridiculously hot and there aren't enough ACTUAL funny horror flix out there. just too many that try to be serious-scary and fail miserabley. and as long as its PREcrappy chucky(the last one was absolute sh3t)...i'm game. that lil' sob used to give me nightmares as a kid, and was hilarious at the same time

Horror movies are nothing more then gore porn and should be illegal. Since the "actresses" in them tend to be underage it puts horror films on par with child porn. Shame on anyone who watches those types of movies!

Anyways, this sounds like a bad idea considering Megan Fox hasn't proven any acting ability, but perhaps this role won't require any talent. But on second thought, everyone in TRANSFORMERS seemed awful, and I'd blame that on the script and the director.

Actually, that's a pretty dumb statement right there. Please just report the news and spare us the opinion if you have no idea what you're talking about, OK? That happens a lot on this site, statements that basically read like "I didn't know anything about this character until I started typing this, but I looked it up on Wikipedia, so I KNOW that (name of actress) would be perfect, because she's hot and has dark hair!"

Recently, I picked up the first couple of trade paperbacks for the Hack/Slash comic series, and I wasn't too impressed. What I've read isn't BAD necessarily, but the concept itself is more interesting than the stories have been so far. It may have seemed better if there weren't so many other horror or horror/comedy comics out there right now that are better written, as there's been a bit of a boom in the last few years. In fact, one of the stories in the trade paperbacks is SO reliant on the reader actually knowing who some of the other comic creators are, as the story has them getting picked off one-by-one at a convention, that it seems like its meant more for comic fans than it is horror fans. It's more geeky than it is clever.

Besides doing more with the concept, they're really going to have to re-work the origin for the movie. There's nothing wrong with the character's origin really, but within the first few pages of the very first Hack/Slash story, everything's pretty much laid out for you. They do elaborate on it more in later stories and they may still be messing with it now, but the way it's presented in the book (which, to be fair, was only a one-shot or mini series at first, so there was a possibility of it also being the LAST story) is way too simple and told in a "for those of you just joining in" sort of way.

The most interesting character so far, at least from the first 2 TPB volumes, has been the sidekick character, Vlad, who is basically a friendlier version of Jason Voorhees that resembles more of a stereotypical slasher villain than many of the slashers they're hunting.

Anyway, like I said before, the story should elaborate more on the origin, as it's easy enough to spread out the details of that as the main sub-plot, while Cassie and Vlad are out doing their thing. I look forward to seeing more NEWS on this project as it becomes available.

She wasn't even good AT ALL to begin with in "Transformers". And she gets her own starring vehicle? Someone give it to Elias Koteas. He deserves it more than most.

You have no sense at all if you don't understand my point. Horror films serve no purpose other then to titillate with blood and nudity. There is no redeeming value in them. The type of people who like horror movies are the same type who like child porn. You have to be mentally sick to watch either type of film because they are fundamentally the same type of film.

I think you are the one who is sick doing this comparison. Because child porn is not fiction and the children are used against their will. Horror is just a fictional story with actors and it's a form of letting off steam. Not all horror movies present either gore or nudity but dare I say perhaps those are the ones that you only see?

PlanB -- I laid out the comics' basic concept, ADMITTED I hadn't read them, and commented on Fox's obvious physical resemblance to the character. That's a pretty far cry from giving an uninformed opinion on the series as a whole. Much as I'd love to have seen every movie, read every book, and personally interviewed every star and director we talk about here, that just isn't possible. Not even for you. Lighten up, willya?

Horror movies may be fiction but the fact remains you are mentally beating off to the death of innocent people which is sick. The fact that it isn't "real" doesn't change the fact that you have to be mentally disturbed to like it. If they made a porn movie that simulated child porn but the actress/actor was really 18 you would have to admit that the people who watched it are mentally disturbed even though it isn't "really" child porn.

You are saying that every horror movie is a "Hostel" or a "Captivity" which isn't true at all. For every one of those, theres 5 others that are nothing like that. While I agree that the horror genre is pretty unwatchable these days, in now way does it compare to child porn.

P.S. They already do make plenty of porn that portrays the actresses and/or actors as being younger than they actually are.

What I'm saying is that someone should just stick to the news if they don't know anything else about the subject, because this IS a news article, more or less. I know a lot of the information has been posted elsewhere, and you guys do often make note of that, so you're not necessarily getting a lot of the stuff firsthand and you want to throw in your two cents here and there, which is cool. However, I often see that the people writing some of the articles aren't always up on the subject. For instance, I remember a while back when details for the Fantastic Four sequel were coming out and one of the writers said something like "I don't know anything about this character, so I looked it up on Wikipedia, and the movie version is going to suck, because it doesn't sound anything like the original". Well, that sort of comment, coming from someone who didn't know anything ABOUT the subject until 2 minutes ago, really adds nothing. I expect that kind of talk from interested folks that might be posting comments, but it's really sloppy on your part as a writer/reporter. As far as not having firsthand knowledge of this book, you guys have had plenty of time to brush up and check out an issue or collection, as ideas for a Hack/Slash movie have been tossed around for a while, and it's a relatively new series, so you don't need to get caught up on 30 years worth of continuity or anything. The Megan Fox casting rumor thing itself has been floating around since Transformers came out.

Who decides who writes what around here anyway? That's a serious question I'm asking. Do the writers post information or articles on films or genres they're interested in, or are they assigned particular stories? I know you guys have some regular columns and that everyone probably does their part for those, but some of the pieces seem sort of random, as if (sort of like in this case) someone is writing about a property they're not very familiar with or if they're writing about something they ARE interested in that they just aren't very good at writing about. If it's mentioned anywhere in a FAQ section or something, I'd like to read it, but if not, can you please briefly explain what goes into the decision of who writes what? Thanks.

I've read the series and I'm a huge fan. The whole concept is supposed to be tongue and cheek with gore. If some users on RT don't like horror, there's no call for equating fans of the genre(like myself) to pedophiles. (And I don't see any nudity in The Ring, The Grudge, or The Others.)

Megan Fox would be a good choice for Cassie Hack. Stick to the discussion (is Fox a good choice or bad one for the movie?) and just calm down.

And please stop attacking the reporters who pass along tidbits of potential movie goodies like the images you see of The Dark Knight online and other casting rumors. (And no, I don't know ANY of the owners or reporters for this site.) Open your own website if you don't like this one!
