Treasure Island may move at a snail's pace, but it's a modestly entertaining snail.
| Original Score: 2.5/4
When it really sails, it cuts through the waves swiftly. But it loses wind so many times the thrills come only sporadically.
Stands out as a gem - although some plot changes for the sake of agitprop make it a flawed one.
Viewers open to experimentation will enjoy simply seeing if they agree with the choices the filmmakers made in their what-if game.
Hardly a treasure, but a lively island of adventure.
| Original Score: B
They've changed it, not just unnecessarily but unquestionably for the worse, and that's a travesty.
Settles into boredom quickly, meandering at a glacial pace through mutinous developments and character shifts that could have used a punch-up at the script level.
| Original Score: C-
Aside from pretty scenery, however, and perhaps sympathy for the topnotch British talent who join in the field trip, there's scant reason to sign up for this voyage.
It offers more of a realistic than a romantic take on the material; that isn't to say it's a more convincing one.
