Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner talk TRON Legacy

Many things have happened to Jeff Bridges in the past 28 years: he's been nominated for three Oscars and won one for Best Actor (in last year's Crazy Heart

), starred in one of the decade's biggest films (Iron Man), played a corpse (in Terry Gilliam's Tideland), and created a one-man character cult for his indelible performance as "The Dude" in the Coen brothers' The Big Lebowski (he reunites with the filmmakers this month for their version of True Grit). But for now, the actor finds himself in the somewhat unusual position of promoting a sequel to a film he made in 1982; a film that critics at the time might not have guessed would spawn a franchise. In TRON Legacy, Bridges returns as information architect Kevin Flynn, the hot-shot game designer who created "the Grid" in the original TRON. We sat down with Bridges to talk about the films, and caught up with co-star Bruce Boxleitner, who played "TRON" in the first movie and reprises his character for the sequel.More…

Tomatometer Watch: Will TRON Legacy Be Off The Grid?

How things change. When Disney released TRON back in 1982, the science fiction adventure -- set against an alternate reality inside a machine and using groundbreaking computer animation -- was met with an indifferent response by mainstream audiences and critics, grossing a middling $33 million at the US box office and drawing mixed reviews (as RT's 68 per cent reflects). "Does any one remember that movie TRON?" went the joke on The Simpsons; and not so long ago. But plenty of kids who saw the movie at the time -- and on video since -- were enthralled by the digital world of the Grid, and like that year's similarly underperforming Blade Runner, TRON went on to become a cult classic that has been revalued over the years for its seminal effects work. And so, 28 years later, we arrive at the sequel that many would not have expected: TRON: Legacy. Disney have been building their $200 million-dollar holiday tentpole up for some time now, with a huge marketing campaign, a buzzed about soundtrack, and numerous teasers of the new 3D visual world the filmmakers have strived to create. But how will the critics respond? Will the sequel become the unofficial victory lap the first film never received, or will it meet the same fate as its predecessor? It's too early to call at this stage, and while the film's leaning to the above-average end of the Tomatometer, the game could change as reviews start to flood in over the next week.More…

Exclusive: Oscar Nominee Jeff Bridges on Crazy Heart - The RT Interview

With an impressive career spanning 50 years, Jeff Bridges started out as a young whippersnapper on his dad's 1960s TV series, The Lloyd Bridges Show. But he will continue to be best remembered for his iconic turn as The Dude in the Coen Brothers' The Big Lebowski.
