Owen Wilson Drops Out of Tropic Thunder
Get well soon, Mr. Wilson.
This one comes out of the "well, duh" files, but it's been announced and we're passing the news along: Owen Wilson has dropped out of his planned appearance in the Ben Stiller comedy Tropic Thunder.
Wilson's decision makes nothing but sense -- according to Variety, he was scheduled to film his scenes in "two to three weeks," and given that he's in the hospital recovering from a suicide attempt, he's got better things to do with his time right now. For what it's worth, Stiller agrees. From the article:
"Ben and Owen have made eight movies together," a source close to the project said. "And he can't wait to work with Owen again. It's just not going to be on this film."
And that's all there is to say, really.

on Aug 29 2007 07:38 AM He needs to fire his publicist and hire me. I could have told him years ago that he was taking too much work. Anyway, I hope he recovers well and finds some happiness again. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 29 2007 09:27 AM I hope all of this works out, but I have to toss out the idea that maybe this is the start of the Frat Pack downward spiral. The Rat Pack and Brat Pack both had their point of failure with a few of its members making it through and most falling off the face of hte earth. Everyone can see Will's popularity coming to an end, Vince is doing a Christmas movie. THe next big Frat Pack movie to be spoken of is the sequel to Old School. I am a true fan of the Frat Pack and all its memebers I just hope I'm wrong and they continue with the success we've all seen in the past few years. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 29 2007 10:13 AM Owen like Stiller, Ferrell, Spade and the others of his generation all seem to be very nice people, overrated no talent comic wannabes mind you that wouldn't make it anytime but now, but very nice people. I wish him good health. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 29 2007 10:39 AM Bye bye Owen - you are an slightly above-average actor at best, with a slightly above-average handsome face. If you can't handle the fame, fortune, and hot blondies then drop out - there about 400 others waiting to take your place. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 29 2007 10:52 AM Owen's a pretty talented guy. Anyone who's involved in writing Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums has to have talent. Perhaps he'll come back behind the scenes. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 29 2007 10:56 AM Life is tough Owen; so get over yourself. You did this over an argument with a friend? I cannot imagine what you would do if it was something serious. Welcome to Earth. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 29 2007 11:31 AM Lol, some of you guys are a little harsh. We really don't know what was involved and why he did whatever he did. You really think we'd get the whole truth behind it? Please. Like someone up there said... human life is human life, so I hope he bounces back. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 29 2007 11:35 AM I have always been a big fan of Owen, and the Wilson family in general. They all seem like genuinely nice people. I hope he recovers and is successful in whatever he chooses to do. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 29 2007 12:00 PM To taran72 and medicineman: go f* yourselves. If your lives are so horrible and awful that you guys need to come on a message board and post bitter comments about someone who just tried to kill himself, then it's YOU GUYS who need to go get a life. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 29 2007 12:04 PM I thought Owen had his sh%t together...would never expect this from him of all hollywood stars. Owen...your the man, dude, and You Me and Depree...we forgive you! Get well! (Reply to this) |

on Aug 29 2007 01:16 PM It's amazing how many celebrities are so messed up. Is it the fame and forture that does them in because they have weak minds to start with? I have problems...some major, but I don't and never will use drugs to "escape" what is going on in my life. Am I being a judge when it comes to these celebrity losers? Well, so be it. I was completely shocked to read about Owen and his drug use and his attempted suicide. Hopefully, this is his wake up call and he will get his crap together. Good luck Owen! (Reply to this) |

on Aug 29 2007 01:45 PM In reply to this comment (#1082008) I'm sure Owen Wilson is trolling the Rotten Tomatoes message boards wondering what advice taran72 has for him... (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 29 2007 02:05 PM Everyone knows this is because of his cocaine addiction. He's an addict and hates himself for it plus his breakup with Kate Hudson sent him over the edge. In times like this, i rely on my rule of thumb for celebs. I can only feel bad for a celeb making miliions of $$$$$, living in 10,000 sft. masions and the hottest women in the world if they lose a loved one. If not that, no sympathy from me. It's like what Jim Carrey once said: "One of the things about being rich and famous is, that no one will ever feel sorry for you. I could be running down the street holding a stump and yelling "I lost my arm! I lost my arm!!!" , and people will be like "Pftt! For 20 million dollars, you can cut of my arm." (Reply to this) |
