This True Grit makes the original almost unwatchable except as a curio.
Gotta disagree with you. The Coen bros' movie deviated from the book in too many ways for my liking. And the original was a far, far better movie than this one.

This is actually a pretty strict adaptation of the book, moreso than the first

This film is great, but the original is just as good, if not better. It is not a curio; it is John Wayne playing himself as he sees his star fading. I'll take the first, but the remake is great as well.

Disagree. John Wayne alone makes the original interesting and entertaining. This remake is okay, and Bridges does about as good a job as you can. But it's not enough to excite me.

First isn't unwatchable by any means, but I think the Coens' version benefits by an amazing supporting cast. Glen Campbell as LeBoef? Nah. And having an honest-to-God kid play the role of the kid was great, too.

Sorry but you're wrong, the original is a lot better. While the acting was really good the movie fell flat with a so so story. John Wayne still owns this role.

For those who think the original is better I bid you this one question: How can you even stand to watch the original when the lines are said with no emotion or nuance?

It's all about age. My dad likes the original, it's considered a classic. People like classics, good acting, story, and direction don't matter.
