Critics Consensus: True Grit Is Certified Fresh

Summary

Happy holidays from RT! This week at the movies, we've got frontier justice (True Grit, starring Jeff Bridges and Hailee Steinfeld), family awkwardness (Little Fockers, starring Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro), and a fantastic voyage (Gulliver's Travels, starring Jack Black and Amanda Peet). What do the critics have to say? It takes guts to try to fill John Wayne's shoes. But if anyone can substitute for the Duke, well, why not the Dude? The critics say the Coen Brothers' (relatively) straightforward remake of True Grit is a rewarding movie in its own right -- it's tough, sly, and filled with marvelous performances. Back to Article

Or maybe it is a double deep Modest Proposal-- Swift wasn't exactly promoting cannibalism. Maybe instead of a terrible cash in on stock Jack Black shinannigans this is actually a deep satirical allegory about the movie industry!

Disappointing weekend. I was really looking forward to Gulliver's Travels, as I love Jack Black and this is his first mainstream comedy in a while. Same with Little Fockers. Unlike everyone else, I like Meat the Fockers better than Meet the Parents, but at 9%, Little Fockers is a hard sell. True Grit looks very interesting, and I love the Coen Brothers, so I will probably have to find time this break to go see it.

I have heard convincingly good and bad about Gulliver but my children picked it out so I will take them to it this weekend. Hopefully it will be as fun as Night at the Museum. (Guilty Pleasure)

I left the projection of True Grit 10 min after the beginning. First time of my life I leave before the end, mostly because I was not in the mood for this kind of movie. I went to Tangled instead and simply loved it. Classic diney bring me tears everytime.

I saw Tron last week, It was pretty amazing. The visuals were absolutely stunning and thankfully made up for the so-so acting/script. I think people would probably appreciate Legacy if they were actually able to watch the first one!!! It's bullshit how Disney literally made it impossible for people to buy or rent the old Tron. Especially how this movie is supposed to be a SEQUEL!!
