Will and Mateo invite their friends over to celebrate Will's 30th birthday. Their friends' (a mix of male, female, gay and straight) conversations soon cover a gambit of topics-politics, gay rights, pot laws, long distance marriages, aging and ethnic discrimination. As the party progresses, the alcohol flows, and the piņata isn't the only thing that gets punched! "Turtle Hill" is inconclusive from start to finish, and while that appears purposeful, it's also pretty dull.
A spirit of free play defines the proceedings, as the script, penned by the two leads, allows characters to reveal themselves through believably precise bits of booze- and weed-fueled conversation.
...its general tone of hipsterish pleasantness is a welcome sign of how much gay life has changed in 45 years.
