That Jim Parsons won is a crime.

Amen to that. Louie C.K. deserved that award much more than Parsons.

I agree as well but I got tired of the running joke in BIG BANG THEORY after 1 season. I hear it's great if you don't get tired of the running joke.

LCK wins EVERY year. They probably wanted a change.

Jim Parson's is hilarious as Sheldon and it's not like both haven't been given love in the past. There are much worse sins than this at award shows.

Yeah, like the fact that The Big Bang Theory is nominated for anything.

I'm not saying he's a bad actor, cuz he isn't, but there were much more deserving nominees than Jim Parsons, such as Louis CK and Matt LeBlanc.

I've not watched much of Matt LeBlanc's new show, but it seems like he's not doing much more than playing an exaggerated version of himself ala James VanDerBeek, NPH or Bob Saget on Entourage.

I don't even watch the other nominees, but why did Louie not win actor, writing, or directing?

The Emmy's are notoriously fickle with comedies that aren't funny. Not a knock on Louie, but it does stretch the boundaries of what's considered a comedy. The Emmy's are always weird for me because I very rarely agree with the Emmy Darlings i.e. I think Homeland is atrocious outside of Mandy Patankin, very soapish and I find Claire Danes portrayal laughable. The SNL skits about it are far more enjoyable than the show itself for me.

Louie is hilarious! Maybe if it had a laugh track, or "live studio audience" more simpletons would find it as funny as Big Bang.

Louie has won before though and has won a lot of awards regarding his Stand up and Show. So don't take Modern family winning (again...meh) as a knock on Louie C.K.

Well overall this was a pretty nonsensical Emmy's.

Jeff Daniels winning Best actor in a Drama? (Even he was surprised)
Jim Parsons winning best actor in a Comedy?
Modern Family winning best comedy?

Well Modern Family winning has become a norm, like how it was for Mad Men to win best drama for a while. Parsons, well, people clearly seem to like him and his performance, and being liked as a person around the academy can come in handy (my only explanation for how Jimmy Fallon gets nominated). Daniels is a tricky one... Maybe people just really liked the fact he was able to knock so many Sorkin monologues out of the park despite his character basically being Tony Soprano as a news anchor?

I've seen a few episodes of Big Bang, and it does have a few laughs, but it doesn't come close to shows like Louie or Arrested Development. The writing is a constant regurgitation of "smart guys being socially inept." Jim Parsons plays a character with no range either. Louis CK and Alec Baldwin were much more deserving of the award.

Sep 22 - 08:24 PM

You can't really appreciate a show only seeing a few episodes of it. What Jim Parsons does have going for him is he took a subsidiary Latka type character and made it into the centerpiece of the show and maintained and grown that popularity for 7 seasons now. I think a lot of the Big Bang backlash is because it committed the cardinal geek sin of becoming popular.

Sep 24 - 06:14 PM

Well there's also the fact that even after so many seasons they still play with tired and arguably inaccurate geek stereotypes, despite managing to have started to move beyond that after the first season.

They went really heavy on awarding what people don't watch. What's crazy is that Newsroom is critically panned as pretentious shitty garbage. I tried watching it but I figured I didn't like it because my belief that American News teams are putrid slimy cowards (Fox and MSNBC).

Parsons doesn't always win. In that category alone 4 of the 5 other competitors have won it previously. A couple of them multiple times. All this hate for a show that happens to be the most popular comedy on TV. Where's the hate for American Horror Story? A show that wouldn't even be mentioned outside of Jessica Lange if it didn't exploit a loophole and pass itself off as a Mini-Series.

Parsons won over Jason Bateman? And Louis C.L.? And Don Cheedle? Hell, even Alec Baldwin? What the hell?

Sep 23 - 12:26 AM

Yep, whooped'em all. Arrested hasn't been the same since it's return, Louie C.K. is good, but this last season wasn't the shows best, Personally I don't see the appeal of Don Cheedles new show and would question if it's even a comedy. and Alec Baldwin has been playing the same character in movies and TV for going on 30 years now. It's a fun character, but he has a lot of help in making that show great. He's probably my 5th favorite character on his own show.

I am just mad that Orphan Black is nowhere to be found in this year's Emmy. The show is so good, and Tatiana Maslany could fill at least 4 spots of best actress nomination.

Sep 23 - 03:56 AM

I think it was a timing issue. Orphan Black started airing pretty late so if it does pop up it'll probably be next year (like what happened with The Newsroom).

I love Breaking Bad but honestly Maise Williams is better than Gunn by a considerable margin. In fact, that whole category was botched as far as nominations go. Louis got shafted as well, it's quite clear the Emmys appeal to popularity more than anything else.

I tried watching the Emmy's once a few years ago. Then they gave an award to Jon Cryer over Louis C.K. and I gave up. Looking over these winners most of these winners, particularly in the comedy category, I think I made the right choice.

So much hate here towards Big Bang - its not a high-brow show and it uses extreme stereotypes for getting laughs, but its fun to watch - at least for enough people to get it considered. Parsons is a good actor and I think he deserved his award - he plays incredibly annoying character and he managed to make me like someone whom I probably would strangle in real life. Louie on other hand makes more mature comedy that falls into niche of people who find that humour hilarious - he is not an Emmy candidate, and thats not a bad thing.

I don't really get the perception that Big Bang is some kind of show for mouth breathing dullards, it's popular yes, but it also counts amongst it's fans the likes of Leonard Nimoy, Stephen Hawking and Steve Wozniak. Basically I'm gonna take the opinion of the smartest guy on the planet over a bunch of internet posters. Big Bang is written by some of the smartest guys in Hollywood, just listen to Bill Prady speak some time about pretty much any topic. We really need to move past violently lashing out at anything that doesn't fit a small particular niche.

Breaking Bad, Louis CK and Game of Thrones especially got shafted. Why do we even care about the Emmys? If I had a friend who tried to argue that Jeff Daniels was better than Bryan Cranston or that Sheldon is better than Louis CK, I'd punch him in the face.

When I saw that Daniels won over Cranston, I had to look again.... and then a third time. I didn't know that was possible! Daniels is pretty one dimensional in his role, whereas Cranston continuously portrays a character who is dangerous, complex, and conflicted (although not as conflicted as he was in earlier seasons).
